The Miquon School, a Progressive, non-sectarian independent school serving grades N-6 is seeking a 60% time (12 month) Business Manager starting in August 2024. This position reports to the Head of School.
The Role:
The Business Manager will provide oversight for the financial needs of the school, ensure that the school is following best practices, including accounting systems and financial audits, and manage the work of the school’s bookkeeper. The Business Manager will take a proactive stance to bring potential cost-savings benefits to the school and, in partnership with the Head of School, guide the conversation about how best to use Miquon’s money and assets to further the school’s mission. The Business Manager plays an important role on the Administrative Team as a key thought partner.
This role will manage all processes and procedures for the Business Office, including:
- Annual budgeting based on strategic priorities and past actuals
- Preparing the annual audit and producing annual Form 990s
- Monthly reconciliations and reports on the AR/AP to the Head of School and staff members, as needed
- Monthly updates on cash flow in the form of an income statement (a realistic reflection of where the school stands) that compares current spending to both the budget and typical annual expenses, a reconciliation of money coming in (both restricted and unrestricted), unusual situations, outstanding debts, and any concerns
- Supervising incoming and outgoing funds in the form of purchasing, check writing, bill payments, staff credit cards, payroll management, online payments/credit card readers
- Report out to the Head of School, the Board, and the Finance Committee
- Maintaining updated financial policies, budget evaluations and justifications, loan and bond management, and management of bank accounts
- Work with the Director of Enrollment Management and Head of School to evaluate and grant Financial Assistance awards, maintain ongoing tuition records and accumulated data, and manage the tuition billing
Qualifications:
- Five years relevant experience and CPA and/or MBA preferred, with prior supervisory experience, preferably in an independent school or nonprofit organization.
- Prior experience in accounting, finance, and business is strongly desired.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and meet deadline driven initiatives.
- Demonstrated and strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- The ability to motivate, direct and train staff in business office processes such as credit card usage, supply purchasing, etc.
