Position Summary
The marketing, events, and administrative specialist provides marketing, event, administrative, and operational support to the Office of ENRICH (Educational and Research Initiatives in Collaborative Health) reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Special Advisor to the Provost. The successful candidate takes ownership of their work, is able to take direction from others but also brings their own ideas and creativity, and is highly organized and detail-oriented with a professional demeanor.

The Office of ENRICH at Rice University, serves the Rice community as the liaison office between Rice University and the health-related institutions of the Texas Medical Center (TMC). The office, established in 2016, and working closely with the Special Advisor to the Provost, is responsible for advising the Provost about opportunities to strengthen research collaborations and educational partnerships between Rice and other members of the TMC.
Rice ENRICH works with faculty to identify and develop high priority opportunities, as well as address barriers to collaboration. In an effort to amplify the enormous creativity of Rice faculty in collaboration with our partners in the TMC, ENRICH offers services and resources, supporting health-related research; sparking and growing new connections.
Rice ENRICH also works with administrative staff to develop standardized processes for student interactions, internships and research experiences in the TMC, working to align priorities and processes across institutions.
Workplace Requirements
This position is offered as a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. A typical schedule will consist of 2-3 days per week working on campus. Occasional extended hours during the evenings and/or on weekends are required to support events. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
Requires working in front of a computer for extended periods of time. Minor lifting required for event materials (15 pounds). Must have the ability to move around campus, including offsite locations like The ION and Helix Park, and set up event spaces as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business/research administration, or related field
- One year of related experience in marketing and social media management, administration, and/or event management
Skills Required
- Ability to take direction and work to meet expected deadlines, while managing projects simultaneously
- Ability to draft and edit professional communications (web, email, brochures, social media, presentations, and reports)
- Must be well-organized and detail-oriented
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects
- Demonstrated high level of confidence and good judgment in making decisions, with innovative and creative problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient computer skills; demonstrated ability with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and Google suite
Essential Functions
- Develops, recommends, and implements communication and marketing strategies for individual programs
- Writes, designs, and coordinates the production of communication and marketing materials
- Builds and maintains a digital community through social media channels
- Leads in the design and development of graphics and web pages
- Assesses market opportunities and tracks market trends, recommending marketing improvements based on findings
- Schedules, organizes, and operates both small and large-scale events and meetings
- Assists in relationship management with TMC institutions, in both research collaborations and educational partnerships
- Assists in the facilitation, monitoring, and impact reporting of seed grant programs
- Collects and analyzes data to create complex reports and databases
- Provides administrative assistance and demonstrates project management capabilities; maintains office supplies and equipment
- Assists in vendor management
- Processes purchasing card transactions
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Preferences
- Hands-on experience designing graphics/marketing materials, creating newsletters, facilitating a social media strategy and updating websites
- Experience with database management
- Experience with event management software and social media platforms
- Operates well in a relationship-based environment, with the ability to adequately deal with challenging individuals and situations, demonstrating a high level of emotional intelligence and professionalism
- Self-starter who takes initiative possesses a positive, “can do” attitude, brings a sense of urgency to their work, and is resilient and adaptable to change
