M-Tech has an immediate need for a Senior Mechanical or Electrical Engineer to serve as the contractor deputy to the Technical Director a major hypersonic weapon program. This position will collaborate daily with technical and acquisition Branch Heads (GS-15/O-5) and report directly to the Technical Director to help solve complex technical problems. This position will drive action through multiple organizations (Industry Prime and subcontractors, FFRDCs, UARCs, and others to accelerate fielding the nation’s first hypersonic weapons program. The position will regularly interface with Flag / General Officers (GO) / SESs to provide verbal and written reports on status, issues, and planned remediations.
Ideal Candidate:
- Significant experience with complex weapon system design, development, testing and deployment.
- Outgoing, problem-solving engineer with DoD experience (weapon system engineering preferred)
- A proven self-starter with minimal need for management direction or prioritization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable representing Technical Director equities when the TD is not available.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Identify technical and integration issues in a complex system (All-Up-Round, Launcher, Weapon Control, Platform, Mission Planning and others)
- Manage action item close out and review close out deliverables for completeness and issue resolution.
- Support or represent the Technical Director at engineering, design, or test execution reviews by identifying problems, driving actions, and communicating problem resolution approaches to senior leadership
- Collaborate with internal program office Branch Heads to identify and implement activities needed by multiple parts of the program office to close actions and solve problems
- Interface regularly with Flag Officers and Senior Executive Service (SES) leadership from multiple program offices.
- Support the Technology Insertion (TI) process by evaluating technical progress against intended long-term objectives to identify gaps or risks preventing success
- Provide technical recommendations to Risks in the Risk Register in order to successfully manage risks to an acceptable retirement
- Support development of updated system requirements, evaluate Level II and Level III requirements, and coordinate requirements verification plans
- Support technical reviews of system engineering products and models
- Support technical review and assessment of technologies, concepts, and systems.
- Provide technical support to acquisition and programmatic processes
- Develop documents and briefings to clearly communicate engineering status, and personally provide briefings to government and industry leadership as required
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in math, physics, chemistry, or engineering discipline or equivalent military education (e.g. Navy Nuclear Power program)
- 10+ years of experience with 5+ years in DoD weapon system engineering (Standard Missile, Tomahawk, or similar)
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to working hard to solve hard and rewarding challenges
- Understanding of DoD systems engineering plans and processes
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
