Reporting to the Chief Wellness Officer, our Director of Youth will have the exciting opportunity to create and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate programs that inspire and empower kids and teens. This individual will help to lead our energetic youth team and work directly with the Director of Youth & Recreation to bring innovative and fun-filled activities to life. This position is full-time, with the Director of Youth playing a large role in JAM Connect, our after-school programming that takes place from 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm every school day, as well as our Summer Connect program, which runs from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm during summer break. The schedule is flexible outside of regular programming and special event needs and could include work-from-home hours. Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs and initiatives set forth by the JAM Youth Initiative
- Oversee and ensure high-quality programs by developing written goals with appropriate staff
- Hire, train, and lead quality staff for respected departments
- Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers for JAM’s Youth Initiative
- Build depth and breadth of JAM’s Youth Initiative
- Develop and manage program budgets under the direction of the Chief Wellness Officer
- Act as the primary point of contact for oversight, implementation, and reporting for grant requirements
- Develop and maintain relationships in the community in order to promote programs and obtain community input and support.
- Oversee, create content, and schedule social media content for JAM’s Youth Initiative
- Coordinate promotional materials and lead marketing efforts for department specific endeavors with the Marketing Department
- Function as the program lead in all after-school programs, events, and initiatives.
- Planning and leading engaging and educational youth programs, including but not limited to STEAM, College/Career Readiness, Youth Leadership, Literacy, and Recreational activities that align with both the Indiana Academic and Afterschool Standards
- Upkeep and management of all equipment and materials pertaining to recreational activities, leagues, and/or events
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years old or older
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, community health, health and wellness, or related field preferred; equivalent work experience accepted
- Leadership experience preferred
- Experience working in non-profit organizations preferred
- Experience working with youth and leading youth programming
- Strong communication skills with people of all ages
