Veterinary Assistant/ Licensed Technician
Kachemak Bay Animal Hospital is a family-owned veterinarian in Homer, Alaska. We are focused on providing quality medicine, surgery and dentistry to companion animals. - Excellent customer service skills and a desire to provide outstanding service
- Ability to communicate calmly, clearly, and effectively with staff and pet owners
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Strong attention to detail and solution oriented
- Safely work around and restrain dogs and cats for examination and procedures
- Ability to handle stressful situations and work well as a part of a team
Duties and Responsibilities –
Answer phone calls, which may include answering questions or scheduling appointments.
Greet clients who enter the clinic with a welcoming tone
Check-in patients , client registration
Create medication labels, filling prescriptions
Assist DVM with appointments - gather patient history, start a medical record, create and present a treatment plan, perform call backs
Clean floors, tables and other areas
Discharge patients - communicate at-home/follow-up instructions clearly
Forward laboratory results and medical records, call in prescriptions
Prepare and analyze blood, urine and other specimens
Become familiar with immunization schedules, parasites and their prevention and other products and services
Recognize signs of fear, stress and discomfort in dogs and cats
Dog walking
Be able to lift up to 40 pounds
Any additional assigned tasks.
Qualifications and Experience –
Exceptional people and phone skills, office experience is a plus
Excellent reading, writing and speaking skills in English
Prior customer service and veterinary experience preferred
Training and mentoring will be provided
Education –
High school or equivalent required'
