BBBS is dedicated to ensuring every child who raises their hand for a mentor has someone to lean on to guide them through building the foundations of a happy and successful adult life. We run multiple programs built to ensure that all youth, regardless of background, have a plan for their life after high school and the social capital to make it a reality. The program has already had a measurable impact on local youth - over 97% of mentees in the program enrolled in higher education, are employed, or enlist in the military upon graduation. Big Brothers Big Sisters has the following position available: Part-Time Outreach Support Specialist. This is a temporary role (20-29 hours a week). Reside in Montgomery County, Cypress or Spring area.
Position Summary:
This role will maintain a consistent presence in the Greater Houston community on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS). Attend community events and other activities through independent outreach and collaboration with the BBBS Recruitment Team. Effectively communicate the Houston market’s volunteer mentor needs and increase recruitment opportunities. Conduct outreach to prospective volunteers at times and events that will lead to successful activation. This position will motivate individuals to take action by becoming volunteers and increase the BBBS’s profile in the community. The candidate must be goal driven, organized, and provide excellent customer service.
Essential Functions, Responsibilities, and Activities:
- In collaboration with the Director of Strategic Outreach and Volunteer Engagement Managers, build positive partnerships with stakeholders to recruit and retain contacts and grow exposure opportunities with local businesses, association memberships, corporations, agency events, chambers, diversity-focused affinity groups, etc.
- Cultivate, manage, and sustain relationships with individuals to achieve set goals and timelines for all volunteer mentor recruitment needs of BBBS Houston.
- Plan effective outreach opportunities that account for the availability of prospective volunteers and prioritize making volunteering accessible to them.
- Responsible for staying current on trends that affect our community, including diversity, equity and inclusion, and child/volunteer recruitment.
Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:
- High school or equivalent.
- Strong interest or entry-level experience in sales, client management, and/or recruitment.
- Must be a skilled communicator; with a strong ability to share BBBS's mission and motivate individuals to take action by becoming volunteers.
- Availability and flexibility to accommodate early weekday morning and evening hours and weekend hours, as well as travel to varying local venues.
- Must be goal driven, organized, and customer-service minded.
- Demonstrated record of meeting goals and objectives.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Willingness to work within culturally diverse environments.
