SIGN-ON BONUSES FOR CO-RESPONSE CLINICIAN - Effective 05/23/2024. $5000 Total, paid in three (3) installments; $2000 upon receipt of the following: Background clearances, including fingerprint background check, Acceptable drug screen results, Satisfactory references; $1500 upon satisfactory completion of the six (6) month probationary period; $1500 upon completion of twelve (12) months of continuous employment, with a satisfactory performance evaluation. This hiring bonus is applicable to new hires only, or otherwise, individuals not having been employed for a minimum of 1 year from the date application is received.
Position Summary
The Co-Response Clinician is designed to assess the needs of individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis working with the community crisis response program will use information obtained to develop and implement appropriate collaborative treatment approaches, and support services to avert an emergency custody order, temporary detention order, inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, and/or involvement in the criminal justice system toward needed treatment and support. Interventions will be provided as part of a co-responder crisis intervention team with the City of Lynchburg police during evenings. Office/community-based position (no telework).
Required Education and Experience.

60-hour Master's degree from an accredited college/university in an applicable human services field and registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling for clinical supervision working toward licensure.

One year experience working with identified population served. Eligible to register as an LMHPE with the VA Board of Counseling within three months of hire. Preferred candidate has one to two years of prior crisis response related experience in the field of Mental Health. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Understanding of common evidence-based practices including, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, and victim awareness. Capable of working with multi-needs clients: mental illness plus chemical dependency, mental illness and developmental disabilities, mental illness and chronic or terminal illness. Ability to work collaboratively, constructively, and positively in a team environment; ability to build constructive working relationships with police, judges, probation officers, correctional staff, medical staff, and other stakeholders. Ability to engage in problem solving process, while applying theory and knowledge of social work or counseling profession. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication and interviewing skills (ability to listen effectively, explain complex issues in a comprehensive manner, prepare accurate and logical reports. Ability to quickly assess and prioritize information received. Ability to effectively work as a member of a team with police officers and members of the community. Ability to perform verbal de-escalation of agitated clients and provide for safety of clients in various physical settings. Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information and maintain the highest ethical standards, including (other agency data, jail records, court records, and electronic medical records). Ability to work effectively and in a professional manner when under stress and confronted with severe time constraints. Knowledge of the criminal justice system, terminology, crisis intervention teams, and current research and trends in the field of community policing. Commitment to empowering and supporting clients with compassion and to maintaining high quality standards in Behavioral Health programming. Extensive working knowledge of community resources. Knowledge of community mental health and public health in order to provide advocacy and enhance an individual treatment and access the community resources. Knowledge of the principles, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Analyze situations accurately and develop appropriate response or techniques. Ability to wear a law enforcement grade protective vest the entire working shift each day. Ability to remain seated while performing related duties using a mobile computer in a law enforcement cruiser up to 10 hours each shift. Computer literate with working knowledge operating in an electronic health record as well as Microsoft office suite programs. Communicate effectively in order to facilitate treatment and relay information to others to work as a team. Communicate clinical finding related to clients to both internal and external audiences. Promote positive, collaborative, and professional working relations among co-workers and representative in the community. Ability to respond effectively to changes in the work environment in a positive and professional manner. Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training. Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver’s license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients, provide services to client at other locations. Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites. Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holiday, etc.) as required.
