Summary: Under the guidance of the Director or Assistant Director of Facilities this position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of Arc facilities with a focus on HVAC repair. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for completion of repairs as assigned, inspection of facilities, implementation of preventive maintenance programs, and completion of maintenance requirements in the areas of plumbing, painting, carpentry, HVAC and electrical repair. This position is full-time with a minimum of +5 years’ experience. The Arc of Union County will provide all work tools and transportation.
Ensures that all agency facilities and associated support systems are structurally sound, operationally efficient, well-maintained, and safe by developing departmental policies and procedures for the Facilities Maintenance Department which address these functions, establishing priorities for scheduled mechanical services and operations, administering preventive maintenance programs for all facilities, inspecting buildings and utility systems to determine repair or replacement needs, and managing the performance of emergency and routine maintenance on campus facilities.
Job Responsibilities :
- Clean driving record. An agency car is provided for daily transport to and from our group home locations within the county.
- NJ HVAC License required.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and drive to and from local and remote locations daily 100%
- Ability to verbally communicate and converse with employees.
- Maintain a stationary position standing 80%; sitting 20%
- Move/traverse, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time, 90% up to 100% depending on the job type
- Lift up to average of 45 lbs. In order to effectively perform the essential functions of this role
- Work as described to include ability to hear and repeat information, take notes, read documents

Qualifications:
- High school diploma, previous work should include a working knowledge of home repairs is a requirement.
- Knowledge of light carpentry, plumbing and electrical repair. Demonstrated successful work history. Roving mechanic experience a plus.
- Ability to function independently and or with a team under assignment.
- Flexibility and ability to thrive and perform in an ever-changing, fast paced and demanding environment.
- Must have a valid New Jersey driver’s license with abstract (not exceeding 5 points), and ability to meet agency insurability requirements. Complete State/Federal Criminal Background checks and Central Registry checks.
Skills:
This position requires Proficiency in Windows software, Ability to use a data entry software. This position requires excellent interpersonal and conceptual skills; proficiency facilities maintenance; strong management, leadership, planning and communication skills; ability to manage information effectively. Ability to timely diagnose and resolve problems, inspire and provide guidance to senior and agency staff at all levels.
Required Working Knowledge of:
- Basic hydraulics
- Building and grounds maintenance experience
- Able to read and follow blueprints and electrical diagrams.
- Experience in performing preventative maintenance.
- Able to interface well with production line workers and supervisors.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations preferred.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form preferred.
- Ability to read and or construct (Blueprints)
- Ability to measure and use industry software to construct diagrams.
ADA Requirements:
This position operates in an indoor and or outside fieldwork setting where exposure to weather elements, dirt, and dust, unpleasant smells, and/or loud noises are possible indoor temperature fluctuation on occasion.
