The Municipal Court Clerk performs basic legal clerical duties in support of Municipal Court operations. This position maintains department electronic records, provides citizen assistance, and processes citations and criminal cases. This employee should possess excellent communication, organizational, computer proficiency, and public relation skills.
A Day in the Life

Inputs, maintains, and updates computer-based court records updating dockets, cases, and case related correspondence; Ensures data entry is current and accurate.

Provides frequent customer service functions such as greeting the public, fielding questions/concerns/complaints, directing inquiries, and generally assisting the public with court related matters; Assists outside agencies and internal departments in a professional manner; Answers and directs incoming telephone calls.

Performs daily cashiering duties for the Municipal Court; Receives and accurately applies court payments, fines, and all other fees; Balances and processes daily cash received.

Processes citations and criminal cases from the Police, Animal Control and City of Hutchinson Planning/Code Enforcement Departments with accuracy and efficiency; Processes criminal history reports for the State of Kansas; Processes, prints, and scans subpoenas; Issues warrants; Certifies tickets to State of Kansas Driver Solutions for non-appearance; Performs record checks for parole, probation, and general public.

Schedules trials for traffic citations and criminal cases; Notifies attorneys of court schedules; Prepares official court documents for judges and prosecutors; Assists in the courtroom; Processes paperwork from the Municipal Court Judge and City Prosecutor; Prepares cases for transfer to other courts as appropriate.
What you will need for success:

Education - A high school diploma or GED is required. A technical degree or some college credit in Business or a related field is preferred.

Experience - One or more ears or similar experience is required. Clerical, legal, or law enforcement experience involving public contact is preferred. An employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well within six months of employment.

Certifications/License - Must be able to obtain and maintain limited access NCIC certification within 6 months of employment.
