Job Summary
Perform equipment operator duties (including trucks, trailers, excavator, skid steer, tractors, mowers, trash handling equipment, mobile cranes, forklifts, boats and barges) to support safe and reliable operation of Hydro facilities. Collect and communicate FERC required data from dam and water conveyance instrumentation at Hydro facilities. Operate flood gates and other water retaining structures during emergency situations. Perform inspections on FERC regulated dams, underground tunnels and waterways.
Duties & Responsibilities
Independently operate and perform minor mechanical maintenance task on trucks, trailers, excavator, skid steer, tractors, mowers, trash handling equipment, mobile cranes, forklifts, boats, barges, etc.
Perform reservoir, spillway, dam and public safety plan inspections/ measurements /maintenance including completion of documentation of inspections and maintenance.
Utilize computers and/or tablets to perform basic functions such as timesheet entry, complete computer based training modules, read company email, closeout work orders in Maximo, etc.
Generate, complete and reference work orders in Maximo
Understand and use Microsoft Office tools, i.e. Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, ect.
Perform facilities maintenance, housekeeping and janitorial task, project support and oversite
Understand and enforce FERC compliances relevant to station
Provide support, training and mentoring of developing Techs
Communicate with internal/external customers
Operate flood gates and other water retaining structures as required during an emergency situation.
Operate underwater and aerial drones used for inspection of flume lines, tunnels, dams, etc including obtaining & maintaining all applicable licenses
Obtain & maintain certifications to perform confined space rescue
Basic Qualifications
Basic reading, writing and math skills.
Basic computer skills
Demonstrated initiative to take leadership roles and provide oversight of contractors
Perform observations and assessments, coach, communicate and work as a team player
Demonstrated active usage of human performance improvement tools - i.e. pre-job briefs, procedure adherence, STOP when unsafe/uncertain, etc.
Experience in operating trucks, tractors, fork lifts, mowers and miscellaneous other equipment
Basic understanding and utilization of basic hand tools, including powered hand tools (drills, saws, grinders, impacts), including chain saws, weed eaters, etc.
Basic understanding of mechanical and hydraulic systems associated with equipment
Demonstrated ability to work safely in all types of situations, including adverse weather conditions.
Instrumentation (electronic & mechanical) operation and maintenance skills so that various types of dam safety instrumentation technologies can be repaired, maintained, installed and read to support the Duke Energy Dam Safety Surveillance Monitoring Program (DSSMP)

Class "A" CDL driver's license
Confined Space Rescue Certification

Specific Requirements
Must have or be able to obtain Class "A" CDL driver's license
Periodic DOT physicals
Subject to Random Drug Screening
Required to pass physical abilities test
Must be able to pass the MASS testing
Ability to work around equipment that generates electromagnetic fields (EMF).
This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
Must live within approximately 45 miles of base location
Working Conditions
Occasional overtime including weekend work, holidays and call-outs.
Monday - Thursday 4/10 schedule with potential to alternate to provide 5 day coverage.
Be able to work alone as well as in a team environment
Frequent walking, climbing slopes, exposure to heights and extreme weather conditions
Able to lift 50 lbs, extensive walking on slopes and hillsides, frequent pulling, pushing, bending and climbing.
Must be available for call-outs to support continuous Hydro operations.
Exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF).
May be exposed to high stress situations and required to be available for emergency response as needed
