TMI Products Inc. makes high-value interior automotive components like seating, interior consoles, floor coverings, door panels, convertible roof assemblies, headliners and integrated electronic systems. TMI has also become the premier foam manufacturer in Southern California, creating premium custom foam products for a variety of industries. The Automotive Designer will become an essential team player, in product development and/engineering practices.
Responsibilities:
- SolidWorks user.
- 2D and 3D design knowledge.
- Design new products and determine feasibility for Design for Manufacturability (DFM)/Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Research and review of vehicle interior products.
- Validate and approve prototypes and product specifications with suppliers and customers.
- Lead product design reviews with engineering team and manufacturing.
- Promote and participate in continuous improvement ideas and processes.
- Create 3-D surface models of aftermarket automotive accessories and off-road automotive accessories
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to optimize the surface design for all aspects of manufacturing and product life
- Stay up to date with the latest trends, technologies, and the best practice in 3-D surface design
- Create 3-D models, prototypes, and detailed drawings of parts and assemblies in SolidWorks
- Maintain organization of CAD files and storage
- Run and design automotive and off-road products on Fusion 360
- Maintain assembly files for all parts
- Convert customer native files to suable formats
- Be hands on and willing to teach and demonstrate proper technique on shop floor
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years 2D and 3D design experience.
- A Bachelor’s or associate degree in engineering, Industrial Design, or related field. Certain combinations of formal education and work experience could be adequate.
- Strong 3-D modeling skills with the ability to produce surface models
- SolidWorks experience required
- Fusion 360 experience required
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with the ability to effectively prioritize
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Must be self starter and able to work in fact paced team environment
- Automotive manufacturing knowledge/experience.
- Automotive design experience.
- Understanding of launch schedules, procedures, processes and timing
