The Electrophysiology Cardiovascular Technician is an essential member of the invasive cardiac team. Prepares patients for invasive cardiac procedures, assists physicians in designated cardiac procedures, and maintains equipment and supplies.
Responsibilities:
- Comprehensively reads and understands intracardiac tracings
- Reads and interprets electrocardiograms with special emphasis on arrhythmia analysis. Alerts physicians of any changes in rhythm or conduction.
- Provides support during procedures and understands diagnostic pacing maneuvers and their interpretation.
- Monitors the position of the catheter in the heart by interpreting intracardiac pressure (where appropriate) and electrocardiograms. Records pressures in all chambers requested by the physician.
- Maintains through the use of the EP Lab computer and completes records of all events occurring during a procedure.
- Sets up and operates electrophysiology equipment such as commercially available mapping systems for procedures.
- Understands and operates required equipment and information systems including, but not limited to, 3D mapping systems, intracardiac echo, electrocardiogram recording systems, Sterioaxis and reporting system.
- Assists by setting up rooms, in a sterile field, equipment and instruments and adheres to sterile technique.
- Retrieve supplies under the direction of physicians during the procedure as needed.
- Assists in emergency situations by performing resuscitation measures, operate defibrillator, performing resuscitation, external pacemaker.
- Replenish supplies in the lab as necessary and performs preventative maintenance on equipment utilizing and understand of the medical working. Notifies Lead Tech/NM of any serious malfunctions and equipment shortages.
- Responsible for learning and applying new technology and/or procedures as they are introduced to the EP lab.
- Perform assignment according to established guidelines a. Assist cardiologist with selective procedures. B. Apply principles and practices of asepsis. C. perform surgical scrub, gowning, and glowing procedure. D. Set up sterile instrument table and prepare supplies according to type of procedure. E. Assist in draping of patient and procedure area according to need.
- Assist in the transport of patients and transfer of patients to the procedure table.
- Responsible for sheath management.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in an accredited School of Cardiovascular Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Work requires a high school level of knowledge (Graduate or equivalent)
- Extensive experience in Cardiac Electrophysiology is preferred.
- RCES or RCIS certification
- BCLS, ACLS Certification within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to interpret EKG Rhythms
- Proficiency in Windows based Biomedical Systems
- Strong analytical and organization abilities required to perform multiple diagnostic tasks.
- Strong priotitizing of multiple responsibilities encompassed with the position.
- Quickly adapt to a changing pace within the department.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
