Primary Purpose:
The Human Resources Compensation Specialist is responsible for setting-up appointments, completing and processing paperwork for all new hires and existing employees in the district. Communicate salary information for all new and existing employees in a timely manner. Maintain employee files in accordance with state and federal laws. All employees of SMSD are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate in a clear and respectful manner, championing the needs of our students and drive continuous improvement.

Education/Certification:
High School Graduate/GED(Required)
3+ years HR direct experience in Human Resources Operations
Bachelor's degree (Preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of general compensation including compliance with state and federal laws and regulations
Ability to implement policy and procedures.
Ability to interpret data.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Strong public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to perform multiple tasks.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:Administration
1. Develop, document, and implement procedures for administering the district’s pay practices and ensure that procedures for placement of newly hired employees and employees who change assignments are applied consistently. Streamline processes to ensure efficient and effective operations.
2. Calculate salaries for new hires and assignment changes.
3. Assist with development and updating of district pay structures and stipend schedules.
4. Responsible for setting appointments and processing new hire applicants for the district i.e. paraprofessional, classified, professionals, and administrative personnel.
5. Input all new-hire information for all employees of the district into the HRIS system as needed i.e. paraprofessional, professionals, and administrative personnel.
6. Maintain files for district employees including receiving and routing of changes involving status change, name change, address change or location change.
7. Verify and input staff members service records received from other districts.
8. Correspond with staff members and provide an explanation of salary information.
9. Generate service records as requested for District employees.
10. Complete Employee Verification for district employees upon request.
11. Determine and input contract information.
12. Prepare and maintain all paperwork for staff resignation/terminations.
13. Prepare resignation acceptance letters to be signed by the SMSD Superintendent of Schools
14. Make necessary Budget Code changes when funding is changed.
15. Assist IT with information and make corrections as needed to ensure correct personnel data.
16. Help with PEIMS corrections.
17. Process personnel action forms for payroll and process corrections as needed.
18. Prepare and maintain records required by Federal, State and local laws/regulations.
19. Work with other HR staff and HR Director to ensure accurate job descriptions for all district positions.
20. Coordinate the annual salary change process with HR Director and monitor adjustments to ensure accuracy.
21. Investigate and respond to salary review requests from district personnel.
22. Participate in staff development and department meetings as required.

Analysis
25. Analyze compensation policies in relation to wage and hour regulations and recommend changes as appropriate.
Other
26. Compile, maintain, and file related reports, records, and other documents required.
27. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
28. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
