Job Overview:
Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Director/Manager, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for receiving/initiating verbal telephone orders for non-controlled prescriptions, entering patient demographic information, conducting a one-time transfer of non-controlled prescriptions, interpreting prescription medication orders, providing direct patient service(s) by preparing and dispensing medications, giving pharmacological information to patients, the clinical health care team and monitoring patient drug therapies.
Responsibilities:
§ Prepares medications for dispensing by compounding (when needed), packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
§ Under direction from the Pharmacy Director/Manager, provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals and counseling patients on drug therapies.
§ Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration.
§ Maintains records for controlled substances and removes outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory.
§ Enters data into the computer, recording prescriptions, purchase orders, stock orders, requisitions and disbursements.
§ Maintains patient and corporation confidentiality at all times.
§ Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols.
§ Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
§ Participates in the clinic performance improvement program.
§ Attends all scheduled staff meetings.
§ Ensures that the 340B pharmacy program is continuously compliant with 340B federal regulations.
§ Collaborates with pharmacy leadership to determine the most appropriate use of the 340B program.
§ Collaborates with the Pharmacy Director/Manager to maintain an effective system of controlling costs.
§ Assists with maintaining compliance with all laws, regulations, and guidelines related to the delivery of health services in a federally funded health center.
§ Handles all communication in a professional, positive manner.
§ Performs other duties, which may be assigned by the Pharmacy Director/Manager.
Education and Qualifications:
§ Graduate degree from an accredited pharmacy college recognized by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).
§ Valid State Certified Registered Technician.
§ Experience with the 340B Drug Discount Program preferred.
§ Minimum two (2) or more years’ experience in a health care setting preferred.
§ Must be proficient in written and verbal communication skills
§ Must have proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative and clinical staff and community.
§ Ability to maintain confidential information concerning personal, financial, or medical matters.
§ Must have knowledge of technical and professional skills management, as well as general principles of human resource management, including performance evaluations and succession planning.
§ Participates in any development programs required by the company and area of practice.
§ Must be able to work an extended schedule or business hours as necessary.
