DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Mental Health Department provides recovery-oriented services, such as WRAP, Personal Medicine, Power Statement and Advanced Directives. All service delivery is based on the department’s guiding principles which include a focus on consumer strengths and choice.
The Full-Time CRAS (Resident Counselor Community Residential Apartment Services) Resident Counselor will be responsible to work a rotating shift according to the following schedules. No one counselor will be permanently assigned to one house.
Work schedule will consist of working three (3) days and being off for six (6) days.
Work time: 3:30 p.m. through 11:30 p.m. (eight [8] hours)
Sleep time: 11:30 p.m. through 6:30 a.m. (seven [7] hours)
Work time: 6:30 a.m. through 9:00 a.m. (two and one-half [2.5] hours)
Shifts falling on a weekend (Friday and Saturday) or on an Agency holiday, the hours worked will be:
Work time: 3:30 p.m. through 1:00 a.m. (nine and one-half [9.5] hours)
Sleep time: 1:00 a.m. through 7:30 a.m. (six and one-half [6.5] hours)
Work time: 7:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. (seven [7] hours)
A three (3) hour unpaid break is figured into this schedule for Saturday and Sunday.
The Full-Time Resident Counselor is the staff person who is ultimately responsible for supervising and overseeing the general functioning of the group home during their shift.
CRITICAL ELEMENTS:
1) Medication Monitoring System: Implement the medication monitoring system as instructed (monitor medications, complete logs, do medication counts, phone in reports, etc.) This may include assisting minimum and moderate care residents.
2) Consumer Emergencies: Respond to any CRAS consumer emergency throughout the shift including supportive counseling. Contact supervisor and/or caseworker in case of any emergency.
3) Direct Care: Build a trusting relationship with house residents. Provide daily living skills training to maximum care residents and implement identified resident goals specified on the resident’s goal plan. Supervise meal preparation and cleaning. Motivate consumers and assist them with socializing, maintaining and managing the facility. Support consumers in achieving their Community Living Goal Plan.
4) Maintenance and Facility Management: Responsible for the overall maintenance and cleanliness of the facility during the shift in accordance with the Department of Public Welfare (DPW) and City Health Guidelines. Report maintenance problems to the direct supervisor. Conduct monthly fire drills. Remain in the facility whenever a resident is present. Check to ensure consumers are in the facility at curfew. If residents are not present, the facility is still in need of staff unless approved by the supervisor or the on-call worker. No consumer is to be left in the facility unsupervised.
5) Documentation: Complete documentation as required (i.e. daily progress notes in consumers’ logs, incident reports, etc.) Report status and/or concerns of the consumers and the facility in the morning call-in to the CRAS office (weekdays only.)
ADDITIONAL ELEMENTS:
1) Participate in meetings as scheduled.
2) Attend 24 (twenty-four) hours of training per year as scheduled.
3) Transport consumers as needed.
4) Serve actively as a team member of the CRAS program i.e. help train new staff, assist with program projects and fill-in during the absence of other resident counselors.
5) Follow and support Agency philosophy, policies and procedures.
6) Assume other duties as assigned by the Assistant Program Coordinator and Program Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications:
Prefer one (1) year college credits in Social Science or one (1) year Human Services experience or significant life experience dealing with disabilities; 21 years old; no contagious disease; valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and reliable transportation. Pennsylvania State Police Background Check. E.O.E.
