Occupational therapy is provided in the school system as a “related service” to special education. OT services enable students to access their special education program by supporting their Individual Education Program (IEP) goals. OT is responsible for evaluating, developing the care plan, and treating students aged 3-21 as defined in the IEP using direct and consult services. OT will work collaboratively with a team of educational staff, administrators, families, and other therapists to help implement a student’s special education program. School-based occupational therapy is designed to enhance the student's ability to fully access and be successful in the learning environment.
