MELA Counseling Services has openings for Full-time Substance Abuse Counselors to join our team in our East Los Angeles, CA location.

NOTE: There are two openings at MELA Counseling Services in which there is an urgent need to fill these positions with qualified counselors.
1: A Counselor that will primarily work with youth. There is a 1-year requirement of experience working with youth in a behavioral health setting (SUD). It is not mandatory to speak Spanish for this position.
2: A Counselor that will work with the adult population. Bilingual English/Spanish is mandatory. This position requires that candidate be bilingual and be able to facilitate group sessions in Spanish. It also requires the candidate to be able to work one evening shift and work on Saturday.

Required Qualifications:
Registered or Certified Substance Abuse Counselor from any of the following disciplines: CAADE, CCAPP, or CADTP
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provide individual and group sessions within the scope of practice (substance use prevention, harm reduction and treatment education).
- Responsible for maintaining a caseload and ability to prioritize workload.
- Complete documentation (assessment, progress notes, and Problem Lists etc.) within 72 hours (preferably 24 hours).
- Write concise progress notes, assessments, in the SOAP, BIRP or GIRP format.
- Participate in bi-weekly clinical supervision with a Licensed Practitioner of the Health Arts (LPHA) and complete case consultations form on all cases at least monthly.
- Responsible for observing and collecting urine samples of participants and submission to laboratory (paperwork).
- Complete the CAL-OMS for all participants on caseload within 24 hours of discharge.
- Complete all required training within 30-60 days of starting work including Motivational Interviewing and CBT and other required evidence-based practices.
- Provide education on MAT treatment and referrals.
- Familiarity of the SAPC Los Angeles County treatment provider manual.
- Complete documentation required to obtain a “C” number from the County to access electronic health records system, SAGE, within seven days of hiring.
- Maintain good community relationships with external agencies and community groups.
- Maintain weekly calendar and facilitate scheduling to ensure program/clerical support and office space.
- Maintain accuracy and consistency in timekeeping, external reports/letters, and client files.
- Adhere to Agency Policies and Procedures.

*Remain abreast of changes and updates within the substance use field that would be of benefit to the substance use programs and their respective clients.
*Ensure that client files remain in alignment with contractual standards.
*Provide on-going case coordination of all clients
* GED or high school diploma required
*Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel computer skills
