We’re looking for a full-time CDL driver to join our transportation team, delivering metal material between various Shapiro and customer facilities. Our company drivers are what keeps Shapiro moving forward and we’re thrilled to add a new member to our fleet.
What You’ll Do at Shapiro
- Safely operate assigned tractor-trailer combinations when transporting material between facilities
- Drive truck in accordance with Federal regulations
- Follow procedures for weighing materials
- Follow procedures for transporting hazardous materials
- Obtain signatures and complete required written/electronic documentation
- Load or unload material from trailers to ensure that loads are properly secured and legal to transport
- Maintain positive relationships with customers, vendors, and employees
- When in town, you may be asked to make local runs or spot trailers to and from Shapiro’s facilities to local vendors
- Perform occasional overnight runs (hotel provided)
Need to Have
- 3+ years driving experience
- Must be 23 or older
- Ability to be insured at standard insurance rates
- History of safe tractor/trailer driving experience
- Effective communication skills
Required Licenses and Evaluations
- Class A CDL license with Hazardous Material Endorsement
- Must pass Company and DOT physical and drug tests
- Must continue to meet DOT Medical Requirements
- Must pass a Functional Capacity Evaluation
Other Required Abilities
- Able to remain alert for 11 hours
- Lift up to 49 pounds
- Push and pull with maximum force of 64 ft/lb
- Withstand repeated bending, stooping, and ladder climbing
- Use steps and handles to repeatedly enter and exit the vehicle’s cab (cab floor is generally 36 to 66 inches above the ground)
- Reach above shoulder level, at waist level and below waist level for maneuvering controls
- Install secure, change, and remove bows and tarp from trailer
- Hook/unhook various commercial vehicle combinations
- Manually lower and raise landing gear
- Operate the fifth wheel release lever
- Lock and release pintle-hooks
- Attach and release safety chains
- Fuel vehicles and check engine oil and coolant levels
