Under general supervision the Vehicle Technician (EVT)/ Senior Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for performing a variety of skilled to highly skilled tasks involving minor and major mechanical service and repair of Heavy Equipment, Fire Trucks, Fire Apparatus, Aerial Equipment, Fire Rescue Vehicles and Miscellaneous Fire Equipment. Duties include but are not limited to: Performs routine/scheduled maintenance and repairs of equipment and vehicles to include but not limited to, wheeled vehicles, power generation, and material handling equipment. Performs maintenance and repairs on Emergency Response Vehicles. Accomplish repairs and perform services as outlined in established technical manuals. Perform inspection and repair on brakes, suspension, wheels, hubs and steering systems. Understand and follow technical manuals, lube orders, wiring and hydraulic schematics utilized during scheduled service intervals to ensure proper diagnosis and repair of vehicles and equipment. Perform major repair jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, removing and installing components, and removing and installing assemblies. Service and diagnose air conditioning system problems. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to meet company and departmental goals and objectives.
- High school graduate or equivalent and at least 21 years of age.
· Must have certification as an Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) and 2 years Heavy Equipment Mechanic experience
· Must have current Heavy Truck ASE certifications (I.E. T4 Truck, Brakes; T5 Truck, Suspension and Steering)
· Knowledge in maintenance of military vehicles and equipment preferred.
- Must possess a valid Arizona commercial driver’s license (CDL) Class A with HAZMAT and Tanker endorsements.
- Must provide a copy of Motor Vehicle Record.
- Must have own tools.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work to include sitting, standing, lifting, bending, kneeling, pulling, walking and driving throughout the duration of the scheduled shift in a variety of weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to read and troubleshoot repair on breaks, suspensions, wheels, hubs, and steering systems.
- Must have proficient knowledge and ability to use a PC computer, the Internet and software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and other common office machines.
- Requires excellent communication skills, verbal and written, in order to deal with internal and external customers at all levels.
- Strong organization, attention to detail and time management skills are necessary to ensure scheduled deadlines are met.
- Customer service skills and neat appearance are required.
- Must be capable of operating material handling equipment up to a 17-ton capacity.
