High School Summer Program Math, English and Language Arts June 25th - Aug 1st , 2024
YMWIC is the inaugural High School Summer Leadership program for 9th -12th grade Scholars at Martin Luther King HS in Philadelphia. All curriculum and Kits are defined and purchased in advance. This is a great summer job for a secondary education educator interested in being creative, collaborative and active. No day will look the same this summer. Scholars will be visiting businesses, college campuses, working on projects, golfing and bowling, practicing math and learning transferrable life skills.
An instructor’s duties will include but are not limited to:
- Overseeing projects in their area of expertise (Math and Humanities), overseeing art exploration projects, chaperoning trips, teaching lessons from our College and Career Curriculum and hosting guest speakers.
- Support 15 to 25 scholars and provide interactive and hands on workshops.
- Support the chaperone team during weekly field trips or local college tours.
- Supervise junior counselors who are in place to assist lesson plans and activities.
- Administer a pre and post math assessment test with report
- Provide weekly activity reports to illustrate scholar progress and performance
- Participate in mandatory kick off meeting.
Requirements:
- Secondary Education certification in Math and/or Science
- Science , English or Social Studies or Math
- Proof of required background checks
- Reliable transportation to Martin Luther King, Jr. High School at 6100 Stenton Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19138
- Strong desire to help and encourage rising 9-12th graders prepare for college.
- Able to arrive daily by 07:45 for check-in and preparation.
Essential Requirements:
- Recent or pending State Certification in elementary or secondary education
- BS degree in middle or secondary education from an accredited college or university
- Experience in a classroom setting using lesson plans and remediation tools and techniques
- Proof of background certificates in Mandated Reporter, Criminal Record Check, Child abuse and FBI check is required
- Able to arrive daily by 07:45am for lesson setup

- Camp Time Period: June 24th – Aug 1st, 2024
- Evening Dinner Banquet: July 27th, 2024
- Part time work week on Tue, Wed and Thur from 08:00am – 2:00pm
- Pay day is bi-weekly
- $500/week
- Off on July 4th
