Job Purpose:
The Cutter Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a guillotine-style cutter to ensure precise and high-quality cuts on paper stock. This role requires adherence to customer specifications and production standards.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
Review job specifications to determine page sequence, fold type, and sheet size.
Measure from the sheet edge using a scale to determine cutting positions.
Enter the correct cutting positions into the computer memory.
Remove paper stock from the load and place it on the cutter bed.
Jog and align sheets against the cutter guide for accurate cutting.
Activate the computer to move sheets into the cutting position.
Use double hand switches to initiate the cutting process.
Examine cut materials for imperfections and adjust the computer program as necessary.
Remove finished or pre-finished materials from the cutter bed and stack them on pallets for shipment or further processing.
Record job details on load tags and time sheets.
Change knives and lubricate the cutter as recommended by the manufacturer's specifications.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Follow and comply with all safety and work regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Bindery Team Lead.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in the setup, operation, and maintenance of cutting machines in the printing industry.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions, job jackets, press imposition, and rule-up sheets.
Must be mechanically inclined.
Basic knowledge of electronics and computer keyboard operations.
Ability to stand and walk 100% of the time.
Capable of extensive lifting and bending actions.
Physically capable of lifting up to 75 lbs.
