Job Summary:
We are seeking skilled and experienced individuals to teach courses in our Humanities Department in the disciplines of Humanities (HUM), Art in the Humanities (ARH), Philosophy in the Humanities (PHI), and English for Academic Purposes (EAP).
As a part-time adjunct instructor, you will provide instruction in the teaching of a specific subject or field of knowledge and guides student study and learning in that subject field.
Duties:
Develops and distributes to students a course syllabus for each class taught based upon the official course outline for the course.
Teaches each course assigned in accordance with the College approved course description and course outlines.
Presents course content to students and guides student discussion and course work-study.
Directs and assists students in laboratory, studio, field, clinic, or other experimental learning activities appropriate to the course, discipline and field.
Prepares substitution assignments and provides substitute instruction for faculty colleagues during occasional absences, as required and as assigned, and not inconsistent with concurrent duties.
Establishes, posts, and maintains approved office hours for professional activities and duties, which include student conferences.
Maintains required records and reports.
Develops and provides to students guidelines for student attendance and absence in the courses assigned.
Develops and provides to students guidelines for the determination of grades consistent with the College’s grading standards in the courses assigned.
Refer students with special needs to appropriate College resources.
Upholds the ethical standards and principals particular to the specific professional responsibility, and contributes toward advancement of the College.
Perform related duties as required.

Humanities (HUM)
· Master’s or higher degree in Humanities, or Cultural Studies,
OR
· A master’s or higher degree in Interdisciplinary/Area/Comparative Studies with a focus in any combination of the Qualifying Disciplines
OR
· A master’s or higher degree in one of the Qualifying Disciplines, plus at least 9 graduate semester hours in a different Qualifying Discipline
OR
· A master’s or higher degree and at least 18 graduate semester hours in qualifying disciplines with at least 9 hours each in two of the qualifying disciplines
Qualifying Disciplines: American Studies; Area/Comparative Studies (e.g. Asian Studies; Latin American Studies; Medieval Studies; etc.); Art History; Classics; Cultural Anthropology; Cultural Studies; Dance Studies / Performance Studies; Ethics / Applied Ethics; Film Studies; Humanities; Interdisciplinary Studies (HUM focus); Literature (any language); Music History; Musicology; Philosophy; Religion / Religious Studies; Theatre History/Theatre Studies; Western/Eastern Civilization; World Languages
Art in the Humanities (ARH)
· Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in any combination of the qualifying disciplines.
Qualifying disciplines: Fine Arts, Art Education, Art History, Period specific Humanities addressing Art History
· Must include at least 6 graduate semester hours in Art History.
Philosophy in the Humanities (PHI)
· Master’s degree in Philosophy or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in any combination of the qualifying disciplines.
o Of the 18 graduate hours no more than 6 can be in Ethics
English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
· Master’s or higher degree in Applied Linguistics or TESOL
OR
· A master’s or higher degree in any of the qualifying disciplines with at least 18 graduate semester hours in any combination of the qualifying disciplines.
Qualifying disciplines: Applied Linguistics; Linguistics; Phonology; Second Language Acquisition; TESOL; Syntax/Grammar; Foreign and Second Language Education
OR
· A master’s or higher degree with a TESL/TEFL/CELTA certificate and at least three years of teaching experience at an advanced level.
