Job Title: VP of Marketing & Communications

Salary: $68,000-$90,000 DOE
Organization Overview: Youth Rising is a dynamic growing national nonprofit organization committed to empowering youth and young adults and driving social change through innovative youth-led programs and initiatives. We are seeking a passionate and experienced VP of Marketing and Communications to join our team. This role is ideal for a highly creative and strategic professional who can contribute to our mission.
Job Summary: The VP of Marketing and Communications is a new position that will lead our marketing and communications efforts, overseeing a diverse array of tasks from content creation to strategic planning. This role involves managing social media and media campaigns, producing videos for promotion, awareness, a new national youth-driven podcast, internal trainings, and storytelling/call-to-actions to increase donor-giving. The VP will also be skilled in designing graphics or using existing professionally curated templates, updating the website, and spearheading a new national youth-driven media/podcast program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the above areas, but most importantly, a passion for youth empowerment. This is a great opportunity for growth as we prepare for extensive growth over the next 18 months and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Creation and Management:
- Develop and produce high-quality long and short-form videos for CEO/LinkedIn relationship-building, organization promotion, storytelling for donors, and a youth podcast
- Create and schedule social media content
- Ensure all content aligns with the organization's mission and brand guidelines
Graphic Design and Website Management:
- Design engaging graphics in alignment with existing brand books and/or use existing templates in Canva for social media, website, and promotional materials.
- Perform weekly updates and maintenance on the organization’s website to ensure current and relevant information is available to our audience.
Youth Media/Podcast Program:
- Manage and develop a new national youth-driven media/podcast program.
- Virtually coach and mentor youth participants to help them produce high-quality podcast videos.
- Facilitate meetings and trainings to support and train youth participants.
Communications:
- Collaborate with the development department and CEO to develop and maintain annual donor giving campaigns and communication touchpoint plans.
- Collaborate across departments to create and distribute quarterly e-newsletters and an annual report
- Design and/or improve donor, sponsorship, community outreach presentation/promotional kits for all staff
Strategy and Leadership:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy.
- Analyze and report on the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and initiatives.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure cohesive and consistent messaging.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of proven professional experience in marketing and communications, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- 10+ years of proven experience and expertise in video production, high-quality graphic design, and social media strategies.
- Strong content creation skills, including video production and graphic design.
- Proficient in social media management and website maintenance.
- Experience managing and mentoring youth is preferred.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting.
- Familiarity with digital marketing tools and analytics.
Detailed Qualifications and Skills:
Videography and Video Production:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in professional videography and video production.
- Advanced skills in operating high-end video cameras (e.g., RED, Blackmagic, Canon EOS series).
- Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and DaVinci Resolve.
- Experience with After Effects and for creating compelling motion graphics and animations.
- Deep understanding of lighting techniques and sound recording for high-quality video production.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating a range of video projects, including promotional videos, documentaries, and social media content.
Photography:
- 7-10 years of professional photography experience, including portrait, event, and action photography.
- Expertise in using DSLR and mirrorless cameras (e.g., Nikon, Canon, Sony), and a variety of lenses and accessories.
- Advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom for photo editing and enhancement.
- A comprehensive portfolio showcasing diverse photography projects relevant to youth and nonprofit sectors.
Social Media Storytelling and Algorithms:
- Demonstrated success in creating and implementing social media strategies that engage and grow followers.
- In-depth knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter) and their respective algorithms.
- Expertise in creating engaging visual and written content tailored to each platform’s audience.
- Proficiency in social media management and analytics tools such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social, and Google Analytics.
- Experience in running paid social media campaigns and measuring their effectiveness.
Podcasts and Scripts:
- At least 5 years of experience in podcast production, including scripting, recording, editing, and distribution.
- Proficiency in audio editing software such as Audacity, Adobe Audition, or Pro Tools.
- Strong scriptwriting skills for various formats including videos, podcasts, and promotional materials.
- Experience conducting interviews and producing narrative-driven podcast episodes.
Education and Additional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Film/Media Production, or a related field.
- Proven leadership experience in managing a team of creative professionals.
- Understanding of the nonprofit sector, especially organizations focused on youth and teen engagement.
- A creative thinker who stays ahead of trends in digital media, content creation, and storytelling.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
