As the Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will oversee the entire product development process, from conceptualization to commercialization and/or manufacturing. Rather than specializing in a single engineering discipline, we seek a candidate with broad technical skills and interests. This role is suited for individuals who thrive in hands-on positions within a collaborative, fast-paced work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead product design activities, including defining product specifications, selecting materials, conducting CAD design, and creating detailed product drawings.
- Develop enclosure and accessory packaging designs.
- Generate documentation and instructions for field installation and modification.
- Conduct and interpret developmental tests to ensure product quality.
- Ensure product compliance with relevant agency requirements (UL, CSA, etc.).
- Provide engineering support throughout the product lifecycle, including technical project management, prototype coordination, and product cost analysis.
- Offer feedback for continuous improvement to enhance product quality and performance.
- Coordinate the creation and implementation of engineering change notices (ECNs).
- Maintain Material Master and Bill of Materials (BOM) records.
- Collaborate with various departments to facilitate effective communication regarding new product development and engineering activities.
- Regularly report key project indicators (schedule, budget, quality) to cross-functional and leadership teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or BSME with at least 3-5 years of product design experience.
- Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD engineering design tools, preferably Creo or Inventor. Mechanical FEA experience is advantageous.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a creative mindset.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes for metals, including bending/forming, cutting, welding, machining, casting, and painting/coatings.
- Knowledge of industry regulatory requirements such as UL/CE/NEC/VDE and performance measures such as NEMA/IEC/ANSI.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with enclosure fabrication and assembly production methods is preferred.
