SUMMARY
The Fund Development Department at TNDC is seeking a Communications Associate who is passionate about using print and digital media to tell vital stories in support of our mission of providing affordable housing and services for people with low incomes in the Tenderloin and throughout San Francisco.
The Communications Associate will possess an excellent command of English, a flair for design, and a fluency with electronic communication tools. They will use text, video, graphics, and photos to convey the stories of TNDC residents, staff, and neighbors in a variety of channels, which include social media, the organization’s website, and email. This position demands attention to detail and the courage to be creative. This role combines elements of content marketing, brand building, and social media management.
This position reports to the Senior Communications Manager and will work in close collaboration with the entire Fund Development Team.
This is a FT hybrid role requiring 2-3 days on site per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Create compelling and meaningful content for multiple channels, including social media, print & electronic newsletters, and the website to grow TNDC’s audiences,

Help plan and execute TNDC’s social media strategy, including setting up a social media calendar, analyzing performance, and building an electronic community of affiliates and partners,

Increase social media presence and followers,

Tend and update the TNDC website to keep it current and increase visitors,

Collect materials for TNDC stories, which may involve interviewing residents, neighbors, staff, and volunteers,

Take and edit photos and short videos as needed,

Design and create on-brand assets for print and online use,

Work with third-party contract designers as needed,

Provide marketing support and promotional materials for events such as fundraisers, groundbreakings, and other special events,

Provide marketing support to other TNDC departments as needed,

Act as the main contact for TNDC’s branding guidelines and keeper of TNDC’s photo archive.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- A passion for building communities in San Francisco,
-
A basic understanding of housing justice and issues related to poverty and affordable housing,
-
Superb written and verbal communication skills,

1-2 years of experience managing social media for an organization,

Experience with Mailchimp or similar email marketing platform,

General understanding of graphic design and design programs including Adobe Creative Suite and Canva,

Strong time-management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize across multiple projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, or related field,

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team,

Experience with Microsoft 365, and Canva Teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with Drupal

1-2 years of experience working in a community-serving organization,

Familiarity with the cultural geography of San Francisco neighborhoods.
