About the Program
The Elizabeth Peabody House (EPH) is seeking an experienced, DEEC qualified teacher for a full-time position in its Preschool program. The preschool provides a developmentally appropriate preschool experience where children are encouraged to make choices and grow in a safe, supportive and nurturing environment. The program provides a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the needs and interests of the children with an emphasis on developing language, literacy and social emotional skills. The interest areas provide children with the opportunity to make choices and learn through play: block area, dramatic play area, language/literacy areas, writing center, science area, math area, gross motor area, and art area. The teaching staff supports the child's play and development through creative and emergent curriculum. The program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Program Goals
The EPH Preschool provides a quality program to preschool children by offering developmentally appropriate activities and experiences. Children develop self-esteem, social skills, emotional skills, language skills, literacy skills, cognitive skills, motor skills, self-help skills, school readiness skills and other life skills. The program seeks to meet the needs of the children and their families by developing continuity of care between school and home.
Job description
- Provide a warm, nurturing, safe and child-focused environment where children are encouraged to develop developmentally appropriate skills.
- Engage children in structured and unstructured skill-building activities
- Spend majority of teaching time interacting with children on their level
- Demonstrates effective communication skills
- Demonstrate an ability to work with a team, toward the program goals of the EPH Preschool
- Demonstrate excellent teaching skills through the implementation of curriculum
- Participate in curriculum development
- Contribute to weekly classroom newsletter
- Assist with meal times and other care-taking responsibilities
- Insure that all DEEC, NAEYC, state, local and agency regulations, policies, philosophy and procedures are implemented and followed.
- Assist with maintaining all program records, files, logs and documentation
- Other responsibilities as required
Qualifications Must be EEC Preschool Teacher Certified
- Must have Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education
- Candidates in pursuit of ECE degree or Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential may be considered with extensive experience.
- Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of teaching experience with Preschoolers (ages 2.9 to 5 years)
- An understanding of cultural competence issues as relevant to childcare beliefs and practices of various cultural and socio-economic populations desired
- Bilingualism is a plus, especially Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole
- Must maintain positive and nurturing child interactions at all times and is responsible for completing child assessments and observations on primary children
- Must possess a love for children, patience and a sense of humor
- A belief in and passion for the work and mission of EPH
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.'
