Harmon Oaks- High Quality Early Enrichment Center where we are Reggio Inspired and STEM Curriculum Driven- playing, learning and growing with children 18 months - 5 years of age.
Our center is in search of a full time preschool teacher for the 3.5 to 4.5 age group. **This is currently a TEMP role that can possibly lead to a PERMANENT role after a few months** All applicants should have a minimum of 24 child development units, while continuing their education (more information regarding requirements below). Applicants should also have knowledge of different progressive and time-tested (Montessori, Reggio, Magda Gerber, etc.) approaches.
The Lead Teacher is expected to be able to lead in the following:
- Planning class curriculum & learning/following Reggio-inspired philosophy
- Multitasking in both setting up and engaging with children during such transitions
- Sparking conversations with children that are both meaningful and offer growth in language
- Supporting children with potty learning and diaper changes (if needed).
- Managing classroom behavior according to school's philosophy and approach
- Engaging and supervising children during self-directed play
- Supporting children in all developmental domains and self-help skills appropriately through interaction & through the environment as a third teacher
- Completing routine responsibilities- setup and cleanup of stations, disinfecting classroom area, toys, etc.
- Open and welcoming to getting MESSY, put your hands in dirt, gardening and play!
Finally, Lead Teachers should be articulate and creative, have a strong sense of care and warmth, and have patience for bundles of energy all day! Harmon Oaks is looking for the right personality and character- patience, humor, and consistency are absolute musts when working with young children. The right candidate should be fast on their feet- helping where help is needed, and doing so without direction and instead with self initiative.
Professional communication, demeanor, the ability to multi-task and follow a strict cleaning schedule, and the ability to be a resourceful team member is also a requirement.
All applicants should meet one of the following requirements: (1) Twenty-four semester units of course work in early childhood education or child development (excluding field work). (2) A course specifically in infant and toddler development, (3) A minimum of 1 year experience as an intern or assistant within a nursery school environment or center environment.
