We hire non-certified Nurse Aides who have completed the state-approved CNA course.
Qualifications
- Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Supplementary education of specialized nurse assistant training
- Certified notice of inclusion in the Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aide Registry.
- Must have an understanding of standard techniques to avoid spread of infection and contagious illness.
- Must have knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering simple treatments and related resident care
- Must be in good physical condition, as job requires much lifting, bending, walking and stretching
- Must be able to pass a background check
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Give general personal care to residents including baths, toileting, hair grooming and oral hygiene and general nail care, feeding and assist the resident in positioning, rang of motion and dressing as required.
- Assists in dining room and resident rooms passing trays and setting residents up for meals
- Monitors intake and output accurately as needed
- Assists resident to walk
- Answers call lights within 3-5 minutes
- Assists or transfers residents
- Makes beds, distributes linen, collects soiled linen according to policy
- Maintains work rooms, linen closets, or carts clean and tidy
- Takes temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height and weight as trained and required upon admission and pm
- Take and record resident’s weight, temperature, intake and output and chart according to applicable facility, state and federal regulations.
- Report to nurse in charge any changes in resident as to their skin conditions, injuries, appetite, and emotional needs, etc.
- Attend and participate in unit meeting and staff development programs and keep knowledge of geriatric care current.
- Function in a professional, calm manner in emergency situations to include transporting residents.
- Maintain and safeguard entrusted confidential information.
- Acknowledges respect for all individuals, resident/co-workers/public, by accomplishing duties with the courtesy of greetings, as smile and pleasant demeanor
- Be flexible, receptive and adaptive to change.
- Understand and apply basic principles of good housekeeping and safety.
- Participate in customer relations with appropriate, professional behavior and attire.
- Be accountable to perform all interventions according to the resident’s care plan and bedside care cards
- Document accordingly on CNA behavior monitoring flowsheets, VS records, food acceptance records, bowel and bladder patterning sheet, scheduled toileting forms, and change of status sheets as per policy
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Lift/carry light objects ranging from less than 10 to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Frequent transfers up to 75 pounds with assist while lifting, positioning and transferring resident to beds, toilets, wheelchairs, etc.
- Push/pull residents weighing 78-250 pounds in wheelchairs and geri-chairs. Reposition residents weighing 78-250 pounds in bed for assistance with treatments and hygiene and comfort needs.
- Use of a Gait belt is required.
- Stand or walk up to 90 percent of eight-hour day to provide resident care and assistance.
- Occasionally perform tasks which require eye-hand coordination such as recording resident weights, temperature taking, adjusting bathtub temperature settings, etc.
- Reaching overhead is required to obtain linens and stock from shelves ranging from floor to 6 feet, and to remove or replace resident items on closet shelves.
- A sense of balance is required to safely transfer resident from one area to another, such as chair to bed, toilet to chair, etc.
- Able to wear gloves and other protective equipment.
- Handling, fingering, and feeling is required continuously for detecting pulse, using resident care items, and providing tactile stimulation to residents.
- Clear speech, reading, and hearing skills are required continuously to comprehend and communicate with residents and co-workers, to follow written plans of care and to respond to emergency alarms.
- Requires ability to identify residents, call lights, and unusual occurrences on unit at distance of 200 feet.
- Requires ability to read small print and written materials, thermometers, and observe changes in resident's condition, etc.
- Requires ability to distinguish normal sounds with background noise ranging from conversational levels to high-pitched sounding alarms.
- Concentrate on moderate detail with some interruption.
- Attention span necessary to attend to a task/function for 10-25 minutes related to nurse assistant duties.
- Comprehend oral and written instructions.
- Ability to comprehend simple directions and specific ideas behind actions.
- Comprehension of in-service materials and principles as required understand and apply in practice.
- Memory capable of remembering task/assignment ranging from a few hours to long periods of time.
