Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for many essential daily tasks within the accounting department. Their role in accounting will handle critical functions of the business, such as working with payroll, bank reconciliations, sales tax, as well as ad hoc projects. This position requires strong multi-tasking, problem solving, information sharing and communication skills. The Staff Accountant position reports to the Controller and will work on-site at our Eden Prairie, MN location.
Responsibilities
- Work with Human Resources on employee onboarding/offboarding and payroll processing including processing expense reports, entering commissions and on-call pay, reviewing timesheets, running reports and validating payroll, making adjustments as needed, entering payroll journal entries into Accounting system.
- Ensure transactional Banking functions are addressed daily, such as reviewing for exceptions, uploading EFTs, scanning deposits and reconciling cash accounts
- Manage all sales tax functions, including working with our third party platform to confirm accurate invoicing and periodic filing for multiple jurisdictions. This also includes a thorough review and monthly reconciliation of sales tax accruals to the general ledger as well as proactively reviewing updates from states and updating our system accordingly.
- Manage Property tax filings which includes managing deadlines, gathering information per applicable state, and filing by paper in a timely manner.
- Involvement in annual workers compensation audit which includes working with Human Resources to gather and submit information received after confirming all applicable certificates of liability are received from sub-contractors and cover the applicable audit period.
- Manage the entire sales rep commission process monthly including running queries from the Accounting system to obtain data needed to calculate sales commission, updating several commission calculation Excel workbooks, reviewing for accuracy against commission plans, submitting for review and approval, and processing payments in payroll.
- Other month end duties, such as working with prepaid software maintenance amortization calculations and other reporting
- Provide world class customer service to both internal and external contacts
- Assist with audits as required
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Proficient PC skills in Microsoft Office, Excel required
- Strong work ethic, critical thinking skills, ability to effectively solve complicated problems
- Comfortable in a fast-paced and ever changing environment
- Demonstrated teamwork, communication, customer service, organization, time management, detail orientation, problem solving, and motivation skills
- Two years of Accounting experience preferred
- Two-year accounting degree is a plus
