Overall Responsibility:
The RN Clinical Educator is responsible for a variety of diverse programs within the organization including but not limited to Clinical Education, new hire orientation, employee health, special projects, and department-specific development/assistance. Works in collaboration with the CNO, Quality Director, managers, and staff. Serves on special committees and tasks forces for various projects. Assist with competency and policy revision and development. Participates in performance improvement activities.
Key tasks and responsibilities (essential functions):
Clinical Education In collaboration with the CNO, Quality Director, and nurse managers, responsible for the facilitation of the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development. In addition, as a role model of professional behavior, the CNE is instrumental in creating a professional nursing climate within OneCore to meet the needs of the patient population.

- Educator:
- Conducts needs assessments using a variety of strategic tools
- Assists learners in the assessment of needs and identification of outcomes
- Incorporates principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of education programs
- Coordinates orientation of new staff to the organization
- Develops/coordinates education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation
- Develops/coordinates core education to address patient population-specific nursing care
- Develops/coordinates core education for the development of beside leaders
- Plans, prepares and maintains materials for use in educational programs for accuracy and relevance to the target audience
- Identifies and evaluates instructional materials in all types of media and formats
- Adjusts content and teaching strategies appropriate learner needs
- Provides educational opportunities that benefit nurses at all stages of their career development
- Delivers competence-based programs for nursing staff with a focus upon the improvement of skills and retention of knowledge
- Develops evidence-based educational materials
- Supports staff development with educational activities (which include remediation, certification, mentoring, life support, CMS regulations, product roll-outs, etc.)
- Evaluates the effectiveness of educational programming
- Prepares short- and long-term planning and programs to address identified needs
- Teaches content as needed and/or assigned within clinical expertise to facilitate orientation, staff development and/or safe practice
- Consultant:
- Serves as an educational consultant to facilities, task forces, committees, and projects relating to policy, procedure and program development
- Responses to regulatory mandates for research and management of sentinel events
- Responds to identified needs of OneCore Health to promote quality patient care and safety
- Collaborates with OneCore Health to recommend educational strategies for the implementation of clinical standards
- Consults with staff regarding individual learning needs
- Researcher:
- Supports the integration of research into practice
- Provides information to document the effectiveness of role as a staff development educator
- Incorporates current educational evidence into individual practice as a staff development expert
- Conducts and/or contributes to nursing research
- Interprets, communicates and incorporates research findings into program planning
- Facilitator:
- Facilitates the adult learning process, creating a climate that supports learning across the health system
- Identifies and recruits internal and external resources (nurse, doctor, other specialists) for educational activities
- Coordinates educational activities
- Facilitates team building and leadership development
- Participates in the review of activities or processes for OneCore Health
- Change Agent:
- Responds to changes in nursing practice and develops programs to support those changes
- Ensures that educational programs are congruent with organizational missions, values, and goals

Employee Health-
- Oversees and manages the administrative and operational duties of employee health services.
- Provides or manages the required physical evaluation programs and services to meet regulatory requirements; such as OSHA, CDC, etc.
- Trains and leads ergonomic team to assess jobs and provide input regarding ergonomic improvements.
- Assists with the accident investigation program to identify root cause analysis of all incidents and near misses.
- Assists departments with identifying, evaluating and implementing accommodations and return to work options for workers with restricted duty.
- Maintains summaries and written reports required for employee illness/injury reporting.
- Plans, implements and conducts annual Flu Vaccine Program.
- Plans and implements other vaccine programs as directed by APIC, OSHA, CDC and other regulatory agencies, to include Tetanus and MMR.
- Conducts TB screening for all new employees, all other employees, and volunteers according to OneCore Health TB control plan and/or at least annually. Conducts follow-up skin testing for all employee TB exposures.
- Trends employee illnesses/injuries to identify safety and health issues.
- Contributes in the design of controls for injury prevention and health surveillance related to actual and potential hazards in the work environment.
- Identifies primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention and health promotion strategies to optimize health of the population.
Other Responsibilities
- Adheres to established hospital safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Aware of supplies and protocols in the event an emergency arises.
- Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skill in developing, planning, implementing, and providing orientation and continuing education programs for nursing and direct care professionals. Demonstrates effective communication with staff of varying education levels.
- Communicates patient information to assure confidentiality and continuity of care.
- Interacts with all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees in a mature, responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional hospital environment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Oklahoma State 667 guidelines, OSHA and other regulatory requirements as well as professional standards such as AORN, APIC, AAMI, CDC, ASPAN, etc. Assists in developing policies according to professional standards and regulatory requirements.
- Assists staff and leadership with performance improvement activities. Collaborates with nursing leadership to design and conduct interventions to address performance improvement and quality management gaps.
- Assists in the assessment, planning, training, implementation, and integration of new technologies and processes.
- Participate in rotation of administrative on-call coverage by providing assistance via phone or on-site as warranted.
- May be required to act in a staff nurse capacity providing direct patient care. Maintains appropriate clinical skills to support this requirement. May serve in the role of RN Case Manager, PAT Nurse, Pre-Operative Nurse, Circulating Nurse, PACU Nurse Phase II, Registered Nurse (Inpatient), PACU RN, ER Nurse or any other RN position for which qualified.
- Other responsibilities and duties as they arise in support of the organization.
Licensure and Certification: Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in the state of Oklahoma. Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. PALS and ACLS/ALS are required within 6 months of hire.
Experience required: Graduation from an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred. 3-5 years of nursing experience required.
