The Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is a Christian non-profit organization that has been serving the less fortunate in Southern California through emergency and long-term rehabilitation services since 1972. RMA partners with local churches to meet the spiritual needs of the people we serve. The Thrift Store Industries provide revenue and vocational training opportunities for RMA Ministries.
Summary
The Thrift Store Assistant Manager is primarily responsible for assisting the Thrift Manager with all aspects of thrift operations, including production, retail merchandising, customer service, employee relations, and safety compliance. This position reports to the Thrift Director. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position located in Oxnard, California. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with the supervision of thrift store staff and operations, assuring that procedures are in place to maximize productivity and quality control.
- Assist in ensuring that all markdown, pulling, and racking is done according to RMA standards.
- Assist in beautifying the store by organizing, sizing, colorizing, and displaying product to maximize value.
- Maintain excellent customer services at times, addressing customer needs and resolving issues.
- Maintain store security measures and takes appropriate actions on known and suspected theft.
- Responsible for cleanliness of facilities.
- Help oversee the proper maintenance and operation of all thrift store equipment.
- Ensure that all employees are in compliance with RMA’s thrift store cash handling procedures.
- Ensure that all employees are in compliance with RMA’s shopping policy.
- Assist with overseeing Program Clients in specific areas of the thrift store operations (vocational training).
- Assist with overseeing Volunteers serving in thrift store operations.
- Assist with implementing policies and procedures for safety and loss prevention.
- Assist in leading periodic thrift store employee meetings to share new policies/procedures, goals set/met, safety information, and any other information deemed necessary for the effective and
efficient operation of the store.
- Helps ensure all employees; volunteers and clients follow RMA’s IIPP and Smith’s System safe driving procedures in working accident free by attending monthly safety matrix and tailgate
meetings, reporting near misses, offering safety suggestions, etc.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- A “Servant Leader” in everyday situations in alignment with RMA’s Lead Like Jesus commitment and Mission/Vision/Values.
- Promote RMA Safety Program and in alignment with the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and Smith Systems policies and procedures, model safe work practices.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Assist Management with the development and training of staff.
- Assist Management with recruiting and interviewing as part of the Hiring Team.
- Assist with performance evaluation process, providing feedback on employee’s strengths and development needs.
- Promote and maintain a high-level of integrity, camaraderie, and professionalism.
- Assists Management with employment actions, including discipline and termination of employees in accordance with the company policy.
- Assist Management in monitoring employee performance, identifying and facilitation opportunities to increase productivity and efficiency.
Qualifications
- A solid Bible based Christian faith, compatible with RMA’s Statement of Faith and an active member of an Evangelical church.
- 3-5 years increasing experience in Thrift Store Operations/Retail Operations.
- Retail & office administration experience
- Supervising and training experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Basic mathematical skills
- Valid Driver’s License and insurable under RMA.
- Individuals must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Software
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and data entry.
- Proficient in PC usage and specifically with Microsoft Office software.
Physical Demands
- Able to lift up to 60lbs.
- Hands-on position, including moving boxes, lifting merchandise, etc.
- Able to walk & stand for an extended amount of time.
Equipment
- Basic office equipment, such as computers, copiers, and printers.
Work Environment
This position will function in a Thrift Store environment. As a part of normal duties this position will be in facilities with an at-risk population where errant behavior and disease risk may be present. Appropriate safety considerations will be required to avoid illness or injury.
