POSITION: SENIOR AUTOMOTIVE TRUCK MECHANIC
DEPARTMENT: FLEET
Responsibilities:
Performs skilled work in maintaining, repairing, and overhauling County automotive vehicles and trucks. Must be certified in Automotive Services of Excellence (ASE).
Competencies for Successful Performance of Job Duties
Thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics; Considerable knowledge of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, valves, generators, and welding; knowledge of price trends and grades and quality of materials. Working knowledge of practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern equipment maintenance; Knowledge of industry terminology.
Skill in operating listed tools and equipment. Motorized vehicles for mechanical testing purposes, power and hand tools, and equipment for vehicle and mechanical system work; mechanic’s tools including jacks, hydraulic lifts, air tools, and other tools required for minor repairs and routine maintenance of motorized vehicles; electronic vehicle diagnostic equipment; personal computer, calculator, phone; mobile or portable radio.
Ability to establish and maintain effective preventative maintenance programs, policies, and procedures; Ability to maintain effective accounting procedures; Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion; Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the public. Ability to train and supervise subordinate personnel; ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
Required Licenses, Skills, or Certifications
Valid SC Driver’s License with CDL class an endorsement, or ability to obtain one.
Welding experience required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Formal Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalency
6 months+ training beyond High School
3 to 5 years experience
Welding experience required – minimum 5 years
