The Museum Assistant is a part-time position working directly under the supervision of the Museum Curator. The Museum Assistant’s responsibilities include staffing the museum’s front desk, interacting with museum visitors, answering phone inquiries, and opening and closing the museum facility. The Museum Assistant may also perform these duties at the Nature Classroom.
Must be able to work on Sundays.
Essential Functions:
1. Greet visitors from the front desk. Answer museum phone.
2. Give an oral overview of the museum, offers interactive activities to guests.
3. Answers visitors’ questions or refers them to additional sources.
4. Assists other museum staff with delivery of educational programs, including greeting attendees, facilitating crafts, and interacting with parents.
5. Follows museum opening, closing, and security procedures.
6. Performs periodic walk through of museum gallery space to ensure safety and cleanliness.
7. Sells museum souvenir items when requested.
8. Assists with museum special events, administrative tasks, and exhibit installation when necessary.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
1. A High School degree or equivalent is required.
2. Experience working at a Museum or related facility is preferred.
Hours: 4-6 hours a week
Salary: $19 an hour +, depending on experience
