Plan, layout and perform all bench and machine operations to construct, alter and repair intricately designed and constructed tools, dies, fixtures, gauges, machine attachments and mechanisms where a high degree of skill and an extensive knowledge of tooling practice and application is required. Work from complicated drawings and specifications; use a wide variety of precision instruments for exacting measurements. Lay out work and plan machining and bench procedures. May act as lead man on any given tooling project, allocating work to tool room personnel specializing in the various areas of machining and bench operations. Perform difficult machining operations requiring complicated set ups involving the improvising of tools and machines for the adaptations beyond the normal range and capacities of available equipment. Perform critical bench and assembly operations to fit, align, calibrate, adjust, assemble and finish work. Do development and experimental work, select allowances and materials; proceed from own conception in absence of design and specifications. Assume responsibility for quality workmanship and dimensional accuracy of assigned work.
TOOL & DIE TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Hire as Tool & Die C after successful completion of mechanical aptitude test. Progresses to Tool & Die B after successful completion of the following or approved equivalent education experience plus relevant job experience:
