Summary: Performs a variety of activities to assist in the care of patients in the operating room in accordance with established policies and protocols.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides a safe, efficient environment for the surgical patient
- Applies and enforces principles of aseptic technique

Checks all equipment and reports or corrects unsafe conditions prior to placing on the sterile field

Verifies exposure to sterilization process and integrity of sterile packaging

Selects, prepares, and maintains instrumentation, equipment, and supplies, and sponges

Initiates sponge, instrument, and sharp counts at the appropriate time

Replenishes necessary supplies and equipment for department

Strictly adheres to hospital and department policies, procedures, and duties
-
Aids nurse with duties related to the care of the patient while in the operating room

Assists with proper preparation and disposition of specimen
-
Assists with adequate preparation of the operating room
- One to two years related experience or equivalent
- Current BLS

Knowledge of operative procedures

Ability to operate sterilizers and all equipment used in the operating room

Ability to understand and adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols

Strong organizational, Problem solving, and analytical skills

Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
