A Little Bit About Us
Instituto Familiar de la Raza, Inc. is a multi-service community health and social service agency. For over 40 years, we have specialized in serving the Chicano/Latino/Indígena community in San Francisco with a focus on the diverse needs of the Mission District. Services include a wide range of mental health, HIV related services, and social services including health promotion, education, prevention, early intervention, case management, and psychological and psychiatric interventions as well as cultural/social and spiritual re-enforcement. The agency serves children, youth, adults and families. It has a rich history of working collaboratively with other agencies to meet the needs of the Chicano/Latino/Indígena community and other cultural/racial communities in San Francisco.
About This Opportunity and The Team You'll Work With
IFR seeks a bilingual (English/Spanish) mental health professional to join our team and work in a rewarding setting to provide individual trauma recovery and family crisis intervention to youth and their families. Services are provided at IFR’s Main Center, in addition to other co-located community-based settings, through tele-health, and where youth receive other vital services. In this position the qualified candidate would offer a range of services and opportunities to youth at risk and involved in the juvenile justice system.
The qualified Mental Health Specialist candidate would primarily serve youth through our ISCS (Intensive Supervision & Clinical Services) & Family First Programming, which targets pre & post-adjudicated Chicano/Latinx youth between the ages of 12-18 years old, including transitional aged youth (18-24), who have come into contact with the juvenile justice system in San Francisco. Through these programs, we also serve youth who are currently placed in or recently returned home from Juvenile Justice Center detention facility or any other out-of-home-placement facility commitment within a 90 mile radius of San Francisco. An emphasis is placed on addressing the needs of monolingual Spanish or limited English speaking clients who are residents of the Mission District and adjacent areas with high-density populations of Latino youth.
Referrals for these services are made through San Francisco Juvenile Probation Department (JPD), Intensive Case Review (ICR), Presiding Judge, the SF Public Defender, SF District Attorney, or Special Programs for Youth (SPY). Family F.I.R.S.T. referrals will include only youth who have at most a 90-day release and/or Re-Entry date already confirmed by the Juvenile Probation Department or placement facility in order for IFR to open an episode and initiate engagement and assessment efforts with the youth at out-of-home placement facilities and with family in their community.
