As a Director of Business Development, you are responsible for securing new business by creating and strengthening relationships through personal visits, phone calls, emails, and other forms of communication. You are responsible for clearly and compellingly communicating the agency’s full capabilities and market advantages to a broad range of non-profit clients and prospects, with a special focus on National Non-Profit Organizations and Children’s Hospitals. You will be responsible for both securing and responding to RFPs and organizing internal efforts for responses and presentations. Compensation package includes base salary, variable bonus, and full benefits.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with agency leadership and colleagues to develop a comprehensive sales and marketing plan for each quarter, to include the following:
- Develop and own a comprehensive sales plan. This will include introduction calls and notes, reports, emails, visits, letters/postcards, luncheon invitations, conference appearances and more, with the goal of regular and successful lead generation.
- Own the accuracy and effectiveness of your prospect list in HubSpot.
- Develop a timeline for communication for each prospect.
- Work with agency staff to receive, evaluate, monitor and respond to RFPs within the vertical/client groups assigned.
- Co-own the planning and execution of conferences specific to the area you’re representing, working with internal marketing staff to ensure appropriate presence and impact
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of our competitors and their impact on the market, including their strengths and weaknesses with existing clients.
- Develop an ear for what clients and prospects are seeking in terms of new products, services, and technologies.
- Keep the leadership team informed at all times of conversations and updates related to prospects’ feedback, including an ongoing written update of pipeline activities and prospects.
- Work with the team when appropriate to develop a strategic plan to “hand off” certain new clients to account service team, with relationship duties in some cases remaining shared.
- Meet regularly with leadership to review progress, challenges and successes, adjusting plan as necessary.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years with client relationship management, sales, marketing, and RFP response in the Direct Response Marketing field required.
- Previous agency experience and non-profit experience preferred.
- Superb written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with clients and internal team members.
- Ability to research prospective clients and prepare/deliver presentations.
- Ability to travel nationally 30-50% depending on season.
