Job Summary
Leads and/or supervises a small to medium unit of non-exempt employees. The functional activities are primarily over a single function and may have an impact on overall operation and represent the first level of supervisory responsibility. The functions lead/supervised are comprised of clerical, trade, or technical employees that provide a service to persons inside or outside the organization and are typically restricted to assigning work, directing efforts, checking work, and providing technical guidance. The substance of the positions is procedural and routine, and is unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled in nature and directly facilitates the work of others in the immediate unit or organization.
Job Description
Overview
The Supervisor-Water Utility supervises, supports, directs, and monitors all field services performed in service of the water utility and related equipment. Oversees work completed on storm drains, pipes, creeks, channels, basins levee sum areas and other water utility areas.
Essential Functions
1 Assigns, monitors, and reviews workers’ equipment, facilities, materials, and tools based on short-term priorities; provides supervision and technical direction as needed.
2 Plans, delegates, and assigns work orders for daily operations and maintenance; oversees crews and crew leaders to ensure field services is completed efficiently and in a timely and effective manner.
3 Identifies, determines, and adheres to work priorities, project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans established by higher level leadership and managers; makes limited adjustments to work schedules and participates in field service work regularly.
4 Oversees, supervises, and leads the daily operation of service personnel, clerical, or installation and maintenance crews; monitors payroll and completes time sheets, provides performance feedback, and monitors safety and procedural compliance.
5 Inspects, checks, and evaluates completed work and work in progress for quality and monitors work performance of employees.
6 Actively looks for methods to improve production; monitors vehicle and equipment operations to improve efficiency and ensure completion of work assigned.
7 Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of human relations and supervision necessary to function as a first level supervisor.
2 Knowledge of water utility equipment, materials, and operations.
3 Knowledge of field services practices, procedures, and activities.
4 Ability to plan, assign, train, direct, and evaluate subordinate trade, service, clerical, or technical employees.
5 Ability to read various schematic diagrams and blueprints
6 Ability to use various types of hand tools, power tools, precision testing and/or troubleshooting equipment.
7 Availability to work varying shifts (days, evenings, nights) including weekends, and holidays.
8 Communicating effectively and in writing.
9 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Salary Range
$27.17 - $33.38
