Reports to: Director of Procurement – CapEx and Systems Parts
Location: Chicago, IL
Responsibilities
- New Product Development Support: Engineered Components and Systems
- Leads all sourcing/purchasing activities for engineered components and systems related to new product development projects across Pregis.
- Acts as the key internal interface with New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering, supports cross-functional teams during the development and industrialization phases and drives strategic supplier relationships that achieve cost-effective procurement goals or technical advantages for the company.
- Candidates must have strong experience managing global suppliers, exceptional negotiation experience, knowledge of global procurement practices, contracts, laws and regulations, and the ability to lead cross-functional project teams as well as the capacity to contribute consistently and positively in a high-paced, fast-changing and sometimes unpredictable environment.
- Manage sourcing of complex Bills of Material (BOMs) with multiple long-lead time components and place first orders of parts so that all parts arrive on time for the pilot builds of complex electromechanical assemblies
- Maintain ownership of key supplier relationships and activities, from initial sourcing through development, tooling, and industrialization phases as well as product launch.
- Work closely with New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering and Manufacturing teams to identify, evaluate, and select suppliers while balancing cost, quality, lead-time, and technical consideration for new product development projects.
- Execute all RFx related to new product development projects and order prototype parts as needed.
- Drive early supplier engagement to improve manufacturability and cost-effectiveness of parts during the development process
- Track BOM costs through the development of a product in a highly organized manner to provide accurate cost feedback to the project team.
- Complete “should cost” and benchmarking analysis as a basis for supplier pricing discussions
- Negotiate all commercial terms and conditions with suppliers for the procurement and delivery of materials, tools, equipment, and services for new product development projects.
- Track performance of suppliers and publish metrics on delivery, quality, and cost during new product development projects to ensure projects are completed on schedule and at the right cost.
- Provide category strategy input to account for evolving New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering needs.
- Execute all Stock Transfer Orders (STOs) and convert all Purchase Requisitions (PRs) to Purchase Orders (POs) for the NPD team.
- Ongoing Cost Improvement Support
- Compile and value post-launch cost improvement opportunities during new product development projects.
- Work with New Product Development, Sustaining Engineering and Manufacturing to implement post-launch cost improvement opportunities that were identified during projects.
- Support New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering with RFx and supplier negotiations for all post-launch performance, quality, and cost improvement activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of professional experience in supply chain, sourcing, or engineering involved with the following technologies: Electromechanical Assembly, CNC, Weldments, PCBAs, Motors, Power Supplies, Injection Molding
- Product launch experience, the candidate must be one that will actively work with the supplier and manufacturing as the equipment is built, tested, and installed.
- Experience working on Value Add, Value Engineering (VAVE) projects and projecting cost reductions achieved from VAVE projects
- Highly responsive, strong attention to detail, highly organized, and able to manage multiple competing priorities effectively
- Experience working closely with engineering and operations leaders.
- Strong written and verbal skills as well as organizational and program management capabilities
- Proficient in Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, ERP systems (SAP is a plus)
- Ability to mitigate unforeseen problems creatively and effectively
- Ability to travel within the United States, up to 15%
