Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Finance who is a strategic thinker with strong financial acumen, excellent management skills, and a commitment to our mission of providing quality Christian education. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in financial planning, budgeting, and operations management within an educational setting.
Essential Functions
- Works directly with the Head of School to initiate, implement, and oversee the day-to-day financial activities of the school.
- Serves as the Chief Accounting Officer and as a principal decision-maker for the school's financial affairs.
- Keeps the Head of School informed of all the school's financial affairs and conditions.
- Provides reliable financial information for the Board of Trustees, its officers and committees, external auditors, and others internal and external to the school as directed and necessary.
- Supports committees of the Board of Trustees as directed by the Head of School
- Prepares financial forecasts, budgets, analyses, and other information in collaboration with and for the Head of School, Board of Trustees, and operating management.
- Supervises the facilities manager and all third-party vendors.
- Oversees development and maintenance of the chart of accounts and ensures internal financial control and financial regulatory compliance.
- Directs all fiscal activities, including all general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank deposits, account reconciliations, and financial reports.
- Oversees purchasing, inventory control, the financial working of auxiliary services, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensures the maintenance of ethical and legal standards in fiscal and business operations and regulations in areas of assigned responsibility.
- Initiates, implements, and oversees the day-to-day human resource programs and activities.
- Assists with policy development and directs and coordinates human resource activities, such as employment, compensation, employee relations, benefits, and employee services.
- Oversees the preparation and proofing of job descriptions.
- Works with school administrators to ensure compliance with the school's hiring policies and procedures.
- Oversees and assures the accuracy of job advertisements, application tracking, travel expenditures, and background checks.
- Prepares employment agreements.
- Maintains secure and confidential human resource-related files and records.
- Oversees the financial assistance award process.
- Consults with legal counsel, as necessary, to minimize potential liability.
- Represents and promotes the school at various school events.
- Develops, researches, and attends professional development.
- Attends administrative meetings.
- Seeks grant writing opportunities.
- Supports the Student and Employee Handbooks.
- Demonstrates a willingness to work as part of a team by being service-oriented, flexible, and reliable when helping co-workers accomplish their jobs/tasks at hand.

Experience:
- An ongoing commitment toward advancing the Christ-centered mission of Veritas Christian Academy is required.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Master's degree and/or CPA preferred; minimum of ten years' experience in the areas of accounting, financial, and business administration as described in the job description.
- Ability to relate effectively with trustees, other administrators, teachers, operations staff, parents, and representatives from the business community in written and oral expression.
- Knowledge of business accounting policies, procedures, practices, and software programs.
- Ability to think and plan strategically and creatively.
- Ability to supervise and manage multiple functions and activities.
- Strong ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to use essential office equipment.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Work in a highly stressful environment dealing with various challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- A valid Certificate for CPR, Active Shooter, and Child Protective Services training. (School provides in August.)
