PRIMARY PURPOSE:
A position in which an employee performs a variety of technical library functions, with office experience and computer skills, in accordance with the City of Sunland Park policies and procedures and other appropriate laws and regulations.
SUPERVISION AND GUIDELINES:
Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Library Director for the City of Sunland Park.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assists patrons at circulation desk; checks materials in and out, processes hold requests, collects fines and fees, registers new library cardholders and issues library cards.
· Collects and compiles statistics as assigned.
· Assists with the processing new library material.
· Organize and reshelve returned items such as books and STEM kits.
· Assists and instructs patrons in the usage of library resources.
· Answers patron inquiries.
· Perform routine tasks such as answering phone calls, operating copy machine and organizing files.
· Use and maintain computer library database to help locate library materials.
· Assist patrons with the use of electronic devices such as public use computers, tablets, laptops, and cell phones.
· Assist in the planning and execution of library programs and events.
· Participate in library events and some City events including community outreach.
· Expected to adhere to schedule set by supervisor with regular attendance and punctuality; some weekends required.
· Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Previous knowledge handling money is encouraged.
· Proficient knowledge with the use and basic troubleshooting of electronic devices.
· Strong oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are required.
· Ability to interact with persons of all ages; children, teens, adults and seniors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
· High school diploma or certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development (GED) test.
· Successful completion of one (1) year of college; one (1) year of knowledge and experience working in a library setting; and a good working knowledge of computer applications and technology equipment (hardware and software) utilized by the Community Library and City of Sunland Park.
· One (1) year of experience in a library or in a comparable work environment requiring customer service skills in office and clerical tasks.
· Experience with the use of electronic devices.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES
· Valid Driver License

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL FACTORS:
Work is performed in a library setting with no notable environmental hazards. Availability for evening and Saturday work as needed. Field work and outdoor activity may be required. May be required to travel for trainings and conferences. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
The Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to stand, walk, reach; and have manual dexterity to handle, feel or control subjects and tools. The employee frequently is required to traverse trough terrain, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is often required to sit for long periods of time and occasionally required to work on uneven surfaces. The ability to perform without accommodation moderate lifting, reaching, stooping, and bending to shelve, move retrieve library items and other materials, lifting and moving boxes of library items up to 50 pounds, pushing of loaded book trucks weighing up to 150 pounds, and using a telephone and other office equipment.
