Job Function:
To maintain and operate the Produce Department including trimming, preparation and packout of produce merchandise according to company and department standards; to communicate with and courteously assist customers with the selection and purchase of produce items; stock and maintain merchandise levels.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance.
· Promote a neat and favorable store image to customers by contributing to efforts to keep your department clean, attractive, and friendly.
· Observe store rules and company policies.
· Follow approved procedures for receiving, code dating, trimming, storing, price marking, and restocking products to ensure quality protection, accuracy and product rotation.
· Price and display product cases as directed by the Department Manager.
· Be knowledgeable in and able to differentiate between all of the various types of produce
merchandise including taste, preparation method or use, and price differences between varieties of similar classes of products (i.e. different types of apples, potatoes, etc.)
· Assist in checking and verifying department receivings when required.
· Take received and prepared products to refrigerated storage, shelf and display areas.
· Contribute to controlling freshness and quality of product.
· Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
· Be familiar with invoice documents and able to confirm accuracy of item descriptions, sizes, quantities and pricing when assisting in receiving product deliveries.
· Record invoice documents accurately on the receiving log and place invoice in the designated area.
· Assist in keeping display shelves and refrigerated cases properly stocked and faced at all times according to product movement and department standards.
· Code date and rotate all perishable merchandise to ensure proper product rotation, quality and freshness.
· Maintain good housekeeping and sanitation in compliance with store policy and state and local health regulations.
· Follow department sanitary procedures and work methods to ensure product shelf life and integrity.
· Check refrigeration equipment for proper performance regularly.
· Use and maintain equipment in good working order.
· Immediately communicate temperature failure of cases/storage areas or of any maintenance or equipment problems to the manager or key person in charge.
· Perform other duties as directed.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to lift heavy objects occasionally.
· Must be able to climb a ladder to retrieve items from overhead racks and storage areas.
· Must be able to sweep and mop floors and lift and carry out trash containers to be emptied outside the department.
· Must have sufficient physical mobility or agility to be able to respond quickly to fire or other emergencies such as cleanup requests due to accidental spills, etc.
· Must be able to work in refrigerated coolers and high moisture content preparation rooms for extended periods of time.
· Must be able to work in an environment with fresh meat, fruit, vegetables, spices, sauces, flour and other food products without adverse or negative allergic consequences that affect performance.
· Must be able to tolerate moderate amounts of dust and chemical fumes from common
household cleaning agents such as ammonia during routine housekeeping duties.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.75 - $15.00 per hour
