Position: Science Teacher at YCCS West
Status: Exempt (Salary)
Reports to: Academic Principal
Salary & Benefits: This is a full-time, permanent, career position. The salary is $45,000 - $52,000 commensurate with experience. The agency benefit package includes health, life, and disability insurance, retirement plan, and bonus program.
Position Summary: The YCCS West (Youth Connection Charter School Network) teacher’s work under the direction of the Academic Principal. The teacher serves as the instructional leader in a specified subject area. The teacher plans and implements an educational program for an assigned group of students.
Position Responsibilities:
- Serves as the instructional leader in the assigned specific subject matter
- Plans and implements and educational program for an assigned group of students
- Plans and implements Best Practice instructional programs for individual students assigned to the classroom or group, in concert with mission, culture, and overall campus educational program.
- Develops course syllabi and plans in compliance with state learning goals and standards that demonstrated relevance of subject content to life experience, to better engage students in the learning process.
- Differentiates instruction, coursework and related projects to accommodate varied learning styles and skill levels.
- Utilizes multiple models in the assessment and interpretation of student ability and progress.
- Maintains Academic and classroom attendance records, writes reports and evaluates progress on activities related to the student’s educational program and progress
- Establishes and maintains communication with parents with relation to assigned students’ academic performance, psychosocial and/ or behavioral concerns
- Serves as an advisory team member for an assigned group of students, to include development of their AEP and periodic review
- Provides timely submission of grades as established by campus calendar
- Collaborates with campus team members in the development of student service or intervention plans
- Renders direct service to students including mentoring, counseling, and crisis intervention, if needed.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Position requires a bachelor’s degree and type 9 teaching certificate
- Must have passed basic skills test and subject matter test
- Must maintain current Illinois certification with subject area endorsement
- Must demonstrate the experience, beliefs, attitude, and awareness that indicate cultural sensitivity to the student population served
- Ability to partner with students individually, in family or in group, to help mobilize resources and inner capacity to address barriers to their success
- Knowledge of principles and practices of staff, school, and organizational development
- Accurate and timely preparations of lesson plans
- Effective and timely coordination and communication with parents and students on any/ and all school issues
- Creates and maintains current documentation of all behavior incidents and/or provision of intervention services for timely submission of copies to campus principal
- Adept understanding of alternative education practices, especially those of YCCS West
- Maintains current knowledge in the field, including but not limited to, attendance at seminars, workshops, and other professional development opportunities
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and make independent decisions
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned
