Description
The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic x-ray exams using proper protocols and positioning to ensure patient safety.This position is responsible for maintaining regulatory and professional standards and exhibiting strong decision-making capabilities. A close working relationship with Radiology leadership, radiologists, and the medical staff is required to maintain a cost-effective and patient-focused service. This position may be responsible for providing care for patients undergoing X-ray, Spine, and IR procedures by using the approved workflows and procedural protocols within the scope of practice. Technologists in this position can demonstrate full knowledge of equipment. Radiologic Technologists are authorized to handle and administer contrast media in accordance with radiology processes and procedures. Competencies are completed through the Radiology department.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Facilitate the patient’s experience by greeting patients, explaining pre and post-procedure instructions, and verifying the patient’s identity. Utilize AIDET Principles in all patient and provider encounters.
· Assist with screening and rooming patients within the X-ray department and other departments if required.
· Perform diagnostic x-ray exams using proper protocols and positioning techniques, transporting patients safely, verifying the accuracy of orders, and documenting patient information. Use C-Arm, Interventional Radiology, and Fluoroscopy as required for assigned exams.
· Performs routine and special exams consistent with established protocols to minimize additional imaging and limit radiation dose to as low as reasonably achievable. Exam productivity is within the established benchmark.
· Consistently completes all exams and documentation in CHL and PACS. Consistently and accurately identifies all charges associated with studies. Addresses errors and resolves issues related to final product being sent to PACS.
· Consistently demonstrates a commitment to safe practices and supports Just Culture. Commitment to using Two for Two to accurately identify patients, follow procedures to avoid laterality errors, and eliminate falls and ALARA. Completes all annual competencies by the designated timeframe.
· Documenting patient’s exam through data entry, report retrieval, scanning and recording the exam details in the electronic medical record system.
· Conduct environmental and safety procedures including cleaning and sterilizing the exam room and equipment. Evaluate and maintain supply levels and practice safe patient maneuvers.
· Maintain professional and technical knowledge and licensure through educational workshops, professional publications and societies.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: ARRT board Certified (RT)
Experience: 1 to 3 years’ experience as a radiologic technologist. Experience with Flouroscopy required and experience with C-Arm & Interventional Radiology (preferred)
Knowledge: Consistently model AIDET principles, service excellence, and service recovery. Consistently demonstrate commitment to safe practices while abiding by all OSHA and HIPAA guidelines. Have sound knowledge of human anatomy and X-ray safety procedures. Outstanding technologists will be highly analytical and able to explain complex information clearly.
Skills: Intermediate computer skills including Email and the ability to comprehend and utilize Electronic Medical Record System and PACS Systems.
Licensure/Certification: Board Certified RT (R) in good standing with ARRT
Physical requirements: Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling. Must be able to stand, stoop and lift and walk without restrictions. Have the physical ability to stand and walk throughout the day and help lift and move patients.
Conditions of employment: This role works onsite. BLS Certification, Compliance with OSHA and HIPAA guidelines, wear all required Personal Protective Equipment. Adherence to the Mission, Vision, and Values of DRI and professional representation of DRI.
