What does the Watershed Protection Department do?
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The purpose of this position is to support the department’s Executive Team and Managers with the management of the following program areas:
Requests for Council Action Items (RCAs): responsible for informing staff of Council dates and corresponding RCA deadlines; review RCA submissions for completion and accuracy; uploading RCA submissions into Legistar; ensure all necessary staff have reviewed the RCA before final posting; monitor communications before and during Council meetings including work sessions and inform staff of revisions, updates and questions Council may have on the department council items; providing Council summaries to staff; coordinate with other department RCA coordinators, Finance, Law, City Manager’s Office, Agenda Office on behalf of WPD when necessary; track, edit, and present to the executive team and managers in biweekly meetings.
Council Item Update Reports (CIURs): CIUR coordinators in the City Manager’s Office enter items from the agenda; each item is assigned to the appropriate department CIUR SPOC, which follows through with status updates until the item is closed. The person in this position is responsible for ensuring CIURs get assigned to appropriate programs within the department; track, edit, and present to the executive team and managers in biweekly meetings.
Additionally, the person in this position will be the back-up for the Department Executive Assistant who provides executive high-level support to the director.
ESSENTIAL STATUS:
This position has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a city-designated extraordinary situation or emergency condition, essential employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees, as well as ensure the continuity of essential operations. Essential Employees may be called back in during such events, required to modify their schedule, assigned to a City-designated work site, or retained on-site to assist with operations and recovery.

TRAVEL:
If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin
Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
ASSESSMENT:
A written assessment will be given as part of the interview process to evaluate skill levels and competencies required for this position.
