What You’ll Do

We are looking for a strong leader to provide operational and strategic leadership to our Fleet Management Team that is continually recognized as one of the top public fleets in the country. As the Director of Fleet Management, you will be responsible for providing complete lifecycle management for approximately 1,400 vehicle and equipment assets. As such, this position requires someone who has a firm understanding of all facets of the fleet management industry and is comfortable developing and using data-driven analytics to provide DEN leaders with business-case options.
The Director of Fleet Management will also function as an integral member of the Maintenance Division Senior Leadership Team and, in coordination with peer Directors, analyze efficiency, productivity and means/methods to optimize performance in support of our wide variety of customers.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Leads, coaches, mentors and challenges staff. Champions organizational change and continuous improvement. Actively engages staff to get support and commitment while providing motivation and encouragement to meet goals and objectives. Leads staff development initiatives that include training, development and succession planning. Establishes performance expectations and standards for all levels of employees to achieve or exceed performance metrics and prepare them for the future.
- Manages the entire lifecycle (design/specification, procurement, commissioning, operating, maintaining, repairing, modifying, replacing and decommissioning/disposal) of a wide variety of vehicle and equipment assets.
- Leads efforts in developing performance metrics and KPI's to facilitate data driven decisions.
- Prepares and presents fiscal analysis and budget preparation/recommendations for Capital and Operations/Maintenance (O&M) budgets. Ensures efficient funds management by using fiscally sound practices. Researches financial impacts and consequences of proposed recommendations and provides business-case justifications to other stakeholders. Develops and incorporates innovations or changes to create cost savings.
- Fosters a culture of continuous improvement by facilitating employee engagement and innovation through the identification and resolution of process improvement opportunities.
- Develops and implements standards, policies, procedures, systems and guidelines for the organization and subordinate managers, supervisors and staff.
- Develops and manages workforce management programs that address position management, work classification, labor productivity and succession planning.
- Champions programs for environmental stewardship, sustainability, and hazardous materials management.
- Utilizes Operational Risk Management (ORM) strategies to develop emergency preparedness response plans and continuity of operations programs.
- Explains and defends the organization's decisions, actions and recommendations to internal and external customers. Provides subject matter expertise and advice in all areas of fleet management to include giving presentations at professional or public meetings.
About You
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
- 2+ years of Public Fleet experience at a Director/ Manager level
- 15+ years plus experience in Public Fleet with progressive responsibility
- Experience running a large-scale facility (1,000 plus assets and multiple shifts)
- Experience managing in a 24/7/365 operational environment
- Experience working with Maximo (IBM’s Computerized Maintenance Management System)
- Experience managing an airport vehicle/equipment fleet to include:
- Airport Specific Snow Removal Equipment (including Multi-function equipment)
- Airport Fire & Rescue Equipment (ARFF)
- AEMP, APWA or NAFA certification
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field based on a specific position(s)
- Experience Requirement: Five (5) years of experience at the type and level of Manager
- Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education
- Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
