Come join The Arc Greater Hudson Valley, the largest organization in NY serving people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities!! The Arc Greater Hudson Valley is currently recruiting for Direct Support Professionals to join their Residential Team.
As a Direct Support Professional in our Residential program you will be providing individualized, person-centered, skills training and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities in home and community settings. This position is great for those who want to come to work and make a difference in people’s lives every day.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Works directly with individuals supported in the appropriate implementation of goals and tasks, fulfilling the needs of each individual being served in areas such as: eating, personal hygiene, recreation, domestic, communication, travel, social, behavioral, safety, health and other life skills to facilitate meaningful outcomes as identified by the individual served.
2. Assists in achieving Individual Service Plan (ISP) goals and implementation of Day Habilitation Plan.
3. Performs van duty in accordance with Program standards with paramount objective of meeting the needs of the individuals served.
4. Greets individuals to project a welcoming environment and building self-esteem.
5. Performs body checks to assess physical status, and reports any changes or concerns to supervisor.
6. Takes attendance of individuals to confirm individuals expected to be present and absent, and reports discrepancies to supervisor. Signs individuals In and Out to maintain accurate records and safeguard whereabouts.
7. Plans the day with flexibility and maintains awareness of individuals’ preferences. Performs duties in such a way as to reflect individualization, integration and fulfillment of potential; continually identifies and utilizes teaching opportunities; seeks input of families and interdisciplinary team members to develop activities; acknowledges and respects individual choices and preferences.
8. Regularly observes the behavior and performance of individuals supported, and communicates any safety and health-related needs to appropriate staff.
9. To ensure the highest level of quality care, maintains appropriate communication with immediate supervisor and other key staff by: a. Proactively alerting supervisor of problem areas; b. Communicating issues or concerns that occur immediately and thoroughly to staff in accordance with Agency policies and procedures; c. Developing and fostering a cooperative partnership with other program staff and between departments; d. Completing, entering and verifying all documentation and contemporaneous data according to regulatory and Program guidelines and rules.
10. Promotes positive self-esteem of individuals through consistently positive interaction, support, lavish praise, encouragement and unconditional respect for individual rights. Brings to the attention of the supervisor any actions or inactions that may infringe on these rights, including but not limited to abuse.
11. Obtains and maintains certifications required in accordance with Program needs, which includes but is not limited to AMAP, Driving, CPR/First Aid, positive behavior supports (SCIP). a. Administers medication competently and safely, ensuring all related documentation. Transports individuals safely. b. Performs positive behavior supports (SCIP) according to Agency philosophy and training.
12. Performs all duties in a safe manner and reports any potentially unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
13. Advocates for individuals to develop encouraging relationships between individuals, family, and community friends in accordance with Plan requirements.
14. Maintains constant confidentiality of all information about each individual and his/her family.
15. Serves as an appropriate role model for individuals supported in working towards the overall goals of independence, integration, individuality, productivity and individual choice. 16. Adheres to and endorses regulatory, and Agency operating policies and procedures, and those of the Program.
17. Carries out instructions of Clinical staff.
18. Maintains a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for each individual supported.
19. Safeguard funds of individuals supported and completes and maintains appropriate documentation.
20. Attends and actively participates in staff, team, and In-Service meetings and trainings.
21. Have the ability to learn new tasks.
22. Be able to follow written and oral directions.
23. Be able to safely operate all required equipment.
24. Requests necessary supplies and equipment to achieve optimal functioning of the Program.
25. Adheres to and demonstrates conduct in accordance with The Arc of Great Hudson Valley County Mission, and Core Values: Relationships, Wisdom, Learning, Integrity, and Respect.
26. Projects a professional and positive image of The Arc of Orange County to the community, thus serving as a representative between the community and individual served. 27. Reports to work when scheduled and on time
28. May be required to stay beyond regularly scheduled shift in event Program needs change, in accordance with Policy 3.4 of the Employee Practices Handbook.
29. Undertakes such duties, responsibilities and projects as may be required by supervisor and/or director
Schedule: 1st shift ( 6a-2p) 2nd Shift (generally 2p-10p, or 3p-11p)
Hourly Pay: $15.67 per hour $0.25 Shift Differential.
Positions are currently available throughout Dutchess County including Poughkeepsie, Wappingers, Pleasant Valley, Salt Point, Clinton Corners and LaGrangeville.
Valid/ Clean NYS Drivers License Required (Must have for a minimum of 1 year). This is an Entry Level Position. We offer one week of paid training.
