RESPONSIBILITY:
This role is for a part-time contracted Parenting Time Supervisor (PTS) who is a neutral third party responsible for facilitating, monitoring, and documenting supervised parenting time between a child and their noncustodial parent. The supervision may be court ordered, agreed upon between the parents, or may be a required step in conjunction with the practice’s therapist. While our practice hires mental health professionals, there is no therapeutic or counseling component to this position.
During visits, the PTS closely monitors and ensures the physical, mental, and emotional safety and well-being of the child(ren). Following visits, the PTS drafts a report itemizing the details of the visits. These services are offered to our clients at agreed upon locations where all feel safe - often at local parks, play places, libraries, restaurants, or in the comfort of our client’s homes. We work with families in Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, and Washtenaw Counties.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Warm, friendly demeanor and ability to create a safe, positive environment for a child during supervised contact with their parent.
- Physically, emotionally and mentally capable of handling difficult situations and
- personalities.
- Comfortability in providing constructive correction, redirection, and feedback to supervised parents as needed.
- Comfortability in terminating parenting time visits in a manner that protects the best interests of the child(ren) should an unsafe situation arise.
- Timely, clear, and concise documentation of all interactions and visitation observation notes required.
- Flexible schedule with weekend and evening work - you will have the autonomy to determine your own schedule and caseload, but most supervisors are working 2-14 hours per week.
- Adherence to policies related to confidentiality and information sharing.
EDUCATION:
An Associate’s Degree, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, and/or Doctoral Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, Human Services, Child Development, or other mental health related field from a college or university AND/OR previous work experience in the mental health field is required. All other training for this position will be provided.
You must be able to pass a criminal background check, drug test, and provide a writing sample.
