Looking for a candidate with a strong background superving enrichment programs during the 2023-2024 school year. Be a part of an exciting, enrichment program nurturing TK-8th graders in advancing their abilities and providing them with a one-of-a-kind experience you can't get anywhere else. If you are interested in becoming a teacher, working in STAR’s program setting is a great place to start!
- Hours: 11:30 am - 5:30 pm
- $20 per hour
- Locations: 11:30 am - 2 pm Regional Office in Camarillo
2:30-5:30 pm Santa Paula
- Commitment to the 2023-2024 school year
Hours: Full-time 30 hours a week
Experience:
- Four years of experience if you do not have a degree: Experience can be classroom teaching or teacher assisting experience in elementary or middle school education; paid or volunteer work experience in physical education or recreation programs; college work-study or internship in recreation or youth development; or paid or volunteer work experience in school guidance or other counseling programs.
- Two years experience if you have an AA in child development
- One year experience with a bachelor's degree ( preferably in Child Development, Early Childhood Development, Psychology, Sociology, or Art ) 1-year experience = 3 hours per day for 100 days
General Requirments:
- Experience working with TK-8th grade students
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be punctual, reliable, enthusiastic, responsible, resourceful and flexible
- Dedicated to children with diverse backgrounds and academic levels
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to the 2024-2025 school year (intersessions not guaranteed)
Knowledge of:
- Basic child development principles and practice
- Safe practice in the classroom and outdoor activities
- Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct
- Basic record-keeping skills
- Correct English usage, grammar spelling punctuation, and vocabulary
- Oral and written communication skills
- Policies and procedures of assigned programs and activities
- Operation of a computer and assigned software
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
- Health and safety regulation
Essential Duties:
- Must be a team leader and team player
- Have great communication skills
- Meet with parents, teachers, school administration, students, and staff
- Interact and build positive relationships with students and staff members
- Supervise all activities that occur during after-program
- Supervise staff members on STAR INC policies
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills and a commitment to educating and empowering youth
- Have extensive knowledge of age-appropriate classroom and behavior management skills
- Assist with daily attendance
- Any other administrative functions that arise
- Fill in for teachers who call out
- Signing out and bringing supplies to teachers
- Pick up supplies from teachers
- Look over lesson plans
- Light housekeep
- Organize supplies
- Discuss plans with teachers including making suggestions
- Serve as a role model and develop positive social behavior of children, reinforce positive behavior as appropriate
- Operate various office, and audio-visual equipment as assigned, operate a computer to update student information as assigned, answer telephone calls, and direct inquiries to the appropriate personnel
- Ensure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures, preparing incident reports as required, assisting in maintaining a clean and orderly environment
- Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing duplicating, recording attendance, and maintaining assigned records
- Be responsible for helping manage a program with 60-100+ students
- Complete all tasks related to managing a staff team, such as auditing timesheets, conducting performance evaluations, and addressing performance issues
- Market and recruit to drive student participation in the program
- Manage email account, and cellphone for after-school program site
Physical Demands:
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and classroom equipment
- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
- Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students
- Ability to see to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information

Other Requirements:
- Must clear a background check and TB to be eligible for employment
- Must be able to walk, run, and jump as we are working with children
- Must complete required Department of Social Services online paid training within 90 days of being hired
