The State Highway Administration (SHA) Office of Traffic and Safety is seeking to fill an executive service position for an Assistant District Engineer- Maintenance (Administrator VII) in District 3 (Prince George and Montgomery County). This position is open to anyone who meets the preferred qualifications listed below.
Nature of Work: This position serves as the Assistant District Engineer - Maintenance (ADE- M) and will be responsible for managing the maintenance facilities in Prince George’s County (Laurel, Upper Marlboro) and Montgomery County (Fairland, Gaithersburg) as well as overseeing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. This position will also serve as the Assistant to the Deputy District Engineer and the District Engineer and will direct all maintenance operations within the district. These duties will include directing a staff of professionals, technical, supervisory, skilled, and clerical personnel engaged in maintenance studies and maintenance operations position will be required to have advanced knowledge in the development, procurement, and administration of more than 24 million (half of the operating budget) in
annual highway, bridge, and capital facility maintenance contracts. This position will also manage and coordinate the work assignments for SHA inspection staff as well as consultants and contractor staff.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Six (6) years of experience in administrative staff or professional work. Three (3) years of the required experience must have involved managing maintenance or construction programs and/or contracts.

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
